FireDigger Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Lots of rumors out there! Good luck Pete. Now we have to start over. Hopefully Mike Garrett doesn't f*ck it up.
Bartolomeo Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I am betting that program is in trouble in the next 18-24 months........not wishing bad vibes on them but it wouldn't surprise me Bart
DrunkenMonkey Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 No idea, but I bet Brian Kelly is kicking himself for signing with Notre Dame now. Serves him right too.
ucla695 Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Lots of rumors out there! Good luck Pete. Now we have to start over. Hopefully Mike Garrett doesn't f*ck it up. Garrett better get someone good so he can hide behind them too or else he'll become a bigger target.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Poor Snooki!!!!! Bo...."the situation" will coach USC next year!!!
smll2 Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 Loved Pete...and Trojan fans owe him all the thanks in the world for 9 of the best years in the history of the program....with that said....he had an itch...good luck to him. As of late tonight is looks like JDR is the front runner... Good Luck to the new guy!!!
FireDigger Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 LOL, "The Situation"... Well said smll2. I can only hope Carroll left purely due to "the itch", but there's a good chance the NCAA will come down on USC due to infractions under his watch. I just hope it won't cripple the program to where the new guy gets a raw deal. I'm sure all candidates of this opening will be considering that fact. Mike Riley probably stayed away because of it?
FireDigger Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 I just watched this clip of Jack Del Rio turning down rumors... For some reason, I don't believe him for one second. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/...sonville-media/
thechenman Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 I am a big Trojan fan, but USC is definitley in for some hurt for the next two years. Wouldn't be surprised to see some transfers...
FireDigger Posted January 12, 2010 Author Posted January 12, 2010 I am a big Trojan fan, but USC is definitley in for some hurt for the next two years. Wouldn't be surprised to see some transfers... I won't be surprised either, however, at the moment, it seems like at least Matt Barkley is very vocal in staying and seems to have taken up a leadership role going into next year. If USC does not get sanctioned for 2010, they could be a dangerous fired up team. The word on the head coach search now is that Jack Del Rio is offered the job, but Del Rio will have to turn down $15 million in guaranteed contract from Jacksonville to do so. I don't think this will work out.
FireDigger Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Lane Kiffin?! Wow! Despite his ability to recruit and surround himself with quality assistants, the guy has some major character issues. Let's hope he makes news on the field instead of off.
ucla695 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm surprised by the choice too, but I like it.
BigGuns Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm surprised by the choice too, but I like it. You're really gonna like it on December 4th!!! I'm excited about it. He has a history of success at SC, albeit not in the driver's seat. He learned well under Norm Chow and was behind some of our best offenses. Bringing his dad for defense and Orgeron for his asst coaching/recruiting abilities, I think we'll be in good shape. Although there may be a little hickup, I think it will make for a much smoother transition than if it were say Jack Del Rio or Mariucci (where the hell did that idea come from, anyway?). Vamos a ver...
FireDigger Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 The news just keep on breaking. Norm Chow is reportedly heading back as OC for USC. So we have Norm on offense, Monte on defense, Lane and Ed for recruiting... sounds like 2004 all over again. Hmmm, I wonder who the Bruins will bring in as OC?
BigGuns Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 The news just keep on breaking. Norm Chow is reportedly heading back as OC for USC. God I hope that's true. Word had it that Chow originally left because of conflict with Carroll. Daddy's excited! Very, very excited...
kaleehb Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Lane Kiffin, look what he did while at Oakland.....NOTHING! On his defense, Al Davis was his boss. Good Luck USC!
FireDigger Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 Lane Kiffin, look what he did while at Oakland.....NOTHING! On his defense, Al Davis was his boss. Good Luck USC! You can't compare NFL to college. Besides, he only got 20 games under his belt which is definitely not enough time for such a young coach. This is a completely different situation where he's coming back to an environment he's familiar with (USC coach from 2001-2006). He is also surrounded by a great staff as already mentioned above.
brutusthebuckeye Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Lane Kiffin eh!!!!!!! Very interesting!!! Go Bucks............
qman22 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I didn't see this one coming.... not cool to bail on the Vols after just one year
smll2 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I didn't see this one coming.... not cool to bail on the Vols after just one year That was not cool. I'm a Trojan alum...and am happy with Lane...more happy with the staff that's joining him....hoping that he's matured. However I do have to get myself right with leaving Tennessee sooo soon. It doesn't feel right at all.
Boosted Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 Wow!! I can't believe SC hired Kiffin. Who would of thought that? He's got some damn good assistants coming with him!
Rogers72 Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I'm a huge Tennessee fan. We all bought into his lies big time and are going to be left with a decade wandering in the wilderness after his year here. I don't care a bit about him but his leaving less than a month until signing day is going to sting for a long time.

Maybe Bob Toledo's still available?
FireDigger Posted January 13, 2010 Author Posted January 13, 2010 DOH!!! Maybe Bob Toledo's still available? The Norm Chow deal is not done as of yet, but they're in the negotiation process. I have heard rumors that if Chow leaves, Neuheisel would replace him with Mike Leach, although I'm not sure if that's going to work since that means a complete overhaul of the current offensive system.
