Geo17pip Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I've been drinking alot of tea lately with honey Mmm... I never really came across a cigar that delivered honey flavors. I heard that Cohiba has hints of honey and grass, but i dont buy Cohiba due to their high prices... im just a college student! lol. What other brands out there have you guys experienced that have honey flavors?
acidmase Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 open ur wallet GEO and stop being cheap! lol
Colt45 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I've tasted honey, or what I call honey sweetness, in a number of cigars. The Cohiba robusto is one, but I think the first that comes to mind for me would be the Vegas Robaina Unicos. But in any of the cases it's usually never a thick syrupy sweetness, but more the sensation of dried honey - think more along the lines of the crystalized stuff on the neck of the half full honey jar - not a dominant taste, but a complimentary component. And yes, I realize this doesn't really help all that much
aavkk Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I agree with Ross on the essence of the flavor, I can't say I've had a cigar dripping in honey. The best examples for me are the Siglo III's with at least 5 years of age. Other cigars have that slight cloying sweetness that could be picked up as honey but I instead get more of a sugarcane sweetness... Now if I could only find some damn ERDM GDE's.
mm12 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 I have a box of La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or no. 1 from 2002 that are absolutely loaded with honey. Other than that, I think Cohibas and the odd Punch and Vegas Robaina are the only cigars I've smoked that have had a good amount of honey flavor.
Ken Gargett Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 the prices of cohiba are a problem but that is where i find most honey. off the top of head, the 2000 cohiba robusto's were the ones that positively dripped honey. amazing smokes. not that that helps.
Tampa1257 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 For those on a budget, try some Por Larrañaga Monte Carlo's, I have found both honey and caramel in them. Smoke them slowly as they are a thin ring cigar, but very tasty and enjoyable.
android Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 2003 Sir Winston full of honey, PLPC, Cohiba Robusto, LGC
Bartolomeo Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 LGC Gloriosos and PLPC come to mind for me for a start Bart
SnakeHips Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 My 2002 La Gloria Cubana Medaille D'Or No. 1s are very honey-flavored. It's blatant, too - you just think, "Hmm, honey-dipped."
Geo17pip Posted December 24, 2009 Author Posted December 24, 2009 Thanks guys! I do have a box of 2002 La Gloria Cubana Medaille D'Or No. 1s that i havent smoked from in a long time. Looks like i might just smoke one for Christmas. Merry Christmas!
stargazer14 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Oh, this was an easy one. And they fit in a college students budget!
jquest63 Posted December 24, 2009 Posted December 24, 2009 Off the top of my head the PLPC, VR Classico and Cohiba Robusto have exhibited honey flavors.
PartagasIV Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Though I've only smoked two so far, I agree with Bart--the RE Gloriosos really gave a taste of honey throughout, more than the normal LGC lineup.
BobbyRitz Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 For me, the Quai D'Orsay coronas from '01 that were extremely popular (and fairly inexpensive) a few years ago provide a honey sweetness throughout.
Geo17pip Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 Oh, this was an easy one. And they fit in a college students budget! I meant to say i never had one of these lol
Geo17pip Posted December 25, 2009 Author Posted December 25, 2009 So i ended up smoking one of my 2002 La Gloria Cubana Medaille D'Or No. 1 by the fire side. Great smoke, i did get some sweetness in the first third, maybe honey/sugarcane. Half way through the cigar got stronger with hints of coffee, leather, and wood. The last third was just straight up cuban tobacco flavor with a floral/perfume background. I really think this cigar needs more time, it was a bit rough around the edges after the half way point, a great cigar though none of the less. Ill revisit in a year, good thing i have 14 left! Merry Christmas!
Ginseng Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 I agree with the LGC MdO 1 for honey. I have also gotten sugarcane from RA 898, and brown sugar and molasses from SCdLH La Fuerza. Wilkey
SinCity Posted December 25, 2009 Posted December 25, 2009 Another vote for Por Larrañaga Montecarlo's One dimensional, but a very enjoyable 40-50 minute smoke.
MIKA27 Posted December 26, 2009 Posted December 26, 2009 Try a San Cristobal La Punta. Whilst it has a slight hint of 'honey' its chock full of rich sweet molasses.
