El Presidente Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I will add some more next week and start a new section for this. Let me know if this is what you are looking for. Here's a question....who can date the Shell Band?
El Presidente Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 I say 1955 on the Shell logo. Spot on ...and who designed that logo?
Habanos2000 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Spot on ...and who designed that logo? I believe a Mr. Graham. Came from his family's coat of arms.
asmith Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Spot on ...and who designed that logo? That is about the right time and according to the Official Shell line 1955 is correct. However I believe it is slightly earlier about 1951-52 the reason for that is the number of flutes on the shell. The base of the logo on the cigar band has 10 flutes where the 1955 logo only has 6, which I feel is a later development of the design. However I will have to go home tonight and go through my design books to confirm this.
Colt45 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Nice pics. Dmitrii's gallery on Trev's site shows a shell H. Upmann band as well.
archosaur Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Good stuff. I've never really taken a close look at that El Rey del Mundo artwork before. Kind of strange, but cool.
Stalebread Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Pretty amazing stuff. Isn't there a term for cigar box art?
Stalebread Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 just answered my own question. Looked in the Rius book The Great Habano Factories where he uses the term "trimmings." That's what I was thinking of.
thechenman Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Extremely nice. Very clear an vibrant. Nice camera.
LeafLover Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Thanks Prez. Saved the Partagas image as wallpaper.

I don't know about customized Cuban bands, but when I was in the Bahamas last year, I visited the Graycliff cigar factory & they do customized bands, don't know what they charge for it but the regular cigar aren't cheap, average price $20 US/stick. http://www.graycliff.com/
