Bartolomeo Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Either I am stupid or I couldn't find many reviews on FOH for this cigar Cinnamon colored wrapper w/ some veins, dry texture but solid construction I love the Dip #1 and #4 White/Grey flaky ash and nice burn rate Initial puff was Chickory coffee blast Some cedar and leather in the 1/3 with a hint of spice.......not very interesting Ginger Beer was the dominant flavor the entire cigar..........I love Ginger Beer w/ Dark Rum but not in my cigars Mild medium flavor to start then remains a solid medium until the end Some bitter coffee w/ some earthiness showed its head I guess I was looking for this cigar to out perform the Monte #2 b/c of the cheaper price point of the Dip but I was disappointed tonight I bought a couple of singles and will let the remaining ones rest 8.1/10 Bart
thechenman Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 My experience with the Dip 2 has been similar in the sense that it has not measured up to the Monte 2, even with its inconsitencies. I've been trying the Dip 4s, but so far I still prefer the Monte 4s, despite their insconsistencies as well. I guess the inconsistencies with the 4s are even less of an issue for me as the price point is much lower than the 2s.
PigFish Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 That's too bad guys I generally enjoy the D-2's. I am somewhat of the opinion that piramides are over produced regardless the brand and don't smoke too many these days. I enjoyed a nice '08 Monte on Sunday. You just can't tell with these I guess.
samb Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Never tried one, but Ive gotten mixed reviews on it.

I find the Monte 2 as with all Montes have a bitter/tangy aftertaste which I don't really enjoy whereas the Dip 2 has everything Monte does but without the tang. Just my opinion/palette.
B.HOBS Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 I feel like of the Dip's I've tried, mostly 5's but I've had a few 2's and 4's, they have always been rather good to me. Monte's seem so unpredictable sometimes, but these come out a little more consistant for me. That being said, I have has some Monte 2's that blew my mind. Dip's definitely arent mind blowing, just reliable.
Tampa1257 Posted December 4, 2009 Posted December 4, 2009 The predominant flavor that I consistently find and expect in a Diplomaticos is paprika spice. I like and enjoy the difference of the Diplomaticos vs a Montecristo. The price point is good and the quality exceptional in my opinion. I believe that those that are expecting a Diplomaticos to taste like a creamy, mocha coffee Montecristo are setting unrealistic expectations on the marca. Enjoy the flavors as they develop and smoke slowly to capture all the beauty of the cigar.
SnakeHips Posted December 5, 2009 Posted December 5, 2009 Only had one of these, and I was a bit disappointed too. Good flavors, but it was harsh and got bitter. I'd be willing to try again, but not the best first impression.
Jimmy2 Posted December 6, 2009 Posted December 6, 2009 Boring cigar was not impressed with the handfull i smoked at all but the #5 is a nice little smoke..
