El Presidente Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Superman had Kryptonite Batman had the Joker. Pharaoh had Moses What is your current cigar Nemesis? You know...that one cigar that so many people love and that you have tried time and time again from different sources but you " just don't get it." Now I am not talking about size or cheap and cheerfuls such as Guantanamera but rather flavour I have had several nemesis cigars over the years which I have come to enjoy( LGC Medaille D'Or No 2 and Quai D'Orsay Imperiales). I really have only one cigar left that I truly despise (beside the Monte Open series...and I don't count them as real Cuban cigars anyway ) and that cigar is the Romeo y Julieta Belicoso. Whenever I smoke one the only word that comes to mind is "Rank". What is your Cigar nemesis and most importantly....why?
riderpride Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I hate to say it because of it's popularity, but I've never acquired a taste for the Monte #2. It could be because the oldest one I've smoked had a mere 20 months of age, which is why a have a box of 10 resting.
MIKA27 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 My Cigar nemesis and would have to be: SAINT LUIS REY REGIOS I was gifted 5 of these a while back and now I know why. I do not know the box code but I was told these were 1980's stock. They were kept in extremely good condition, had a nice oily sheen but the flavours that come to mind other than just plain harshness would have to be the same as if you were to run your tongue along a dirt road that had cattle trampling over it moments prior. Just reflecting back to it makes me shudder.
Ken Gargett Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 where to start? how about the monte petit edmundo!
mkz Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Partagas Shorts. I just dont get this cigar! I love the marca. I love the size. Yet, I find this little bugger... weirdly boring.
messa Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 For me it has to be the Partagas Lusitania. They are always plugged or have too stiff a draw for me. Have tried from 3 reputable vendors and I've been disappointed each time. I'm done with them.
Wil Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I hate to say it because of it's popularity, but I've never acquired a taste for the Monte #2. It could be because the oldest one I've smoked had a mere 20 months of age, which is why a have a box of 10 resting. Same here, and I'll add the Monte 4. I suspect the few that I've had have also been too young.
Wil Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 And the Diplo 4. Only had two, but both were terrible!
Buch0 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Defo the Magnum 46.. I have loved every other H Upmann I have tried except for this. Even though they have all been under 24 months old, the cold brick taste I get from these haunts me.
Tampa1257 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Still hoping that someone can prove me wrong. Cohiba Siglo VI Never have I tasted any of the signature Cohiba sweet vanilla and mocha bean flavors, only a shallow and pail mildly grass essence. Of the 1/2 dozen I've smoked, 5 have been total wind chambers. For the cost factor of this cigar, everyone should be a complete Masterpiece in my opinion!
Jesuscookies Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Monte # 2's for sure. Followed by the recent Upmann Sir Winnies... I do not get the hoopla for either of these cigars. Just not for my taste buds I guess.
BolivarSmoker Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I really want to fall in love with the Edmundo, but it never quite satisfies.
El Presidente Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 What I love about this is that you will be reading someone elses post and go....."No Fricken Way! You should try one of mine!" You know what. Do it. PM the member privately and offer one of your special private stash that you know are excellent. I am sure the other member will reciprocate
greenpimp Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Funny, you know when I read this thread topic, the first cigar that came to mind was the RyJ Belicoso. Still the worst cuban cigar I have ever smoked. I still have most of a box stashed in the back of one of my cabinets. Waiting for them to change into a different cigar, I guess, or until I have an enemy worthy enough to gift them to. I also have never found a RyJ Churchill that was anything more than bland and average. And all the Monte PEs I have, from 3 boxes I bought on first release, taste like grass clippings.
Buch0 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 What I love about this is that you will be reading someone elses post and go....."No Fricken Way! You should try one of mine!" Spot on. Take Tampa for example, the fact he has never enjoyed a Siglo VI makes me want to travel to his location and take him under my wing of sorts with a box of VI's and sit him down until he experiences the bliss that comes with one. When one experiences a truly great cigar, you cant help but be inclined to pass the enjoyment around to anyone willing to take the time to try it.
Bartolomeo Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 RASS.....wanted to like these so much b/c of price point but have had crap everytime BBF......Ditto from above Monte 3 & 4.........boring RA Celest Finos.........Although I will revisit in 6 months, but the nastiest cigar I have had since August Bart
kaleehb Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Bolivar Royal Corona...maybe the box I bought was just sub par. Had lots of burn and draw problems not to mention a little tart on the palate. Amazing because others only have great things to say about them. Hmmmm....I'll keep trying though.
jfury76 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Like many, I've had more misses than hits with Monte No. 2, but when they're on they are great. I'll admit that I've never tried a Dip 2 or 4 before, so sounds like I need to diversify beyond my usual rut of SLR.
bunburyist Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 hmmm, prob the Trinidad Fundadores. The last two I've had were totally underwhelming flavour wise, and the draw was pretty dire. Supposed to be exceptional cigars but not for me. Defo though a trick is being missed with the RyJ Belicoso. Imagine that with a short churchill flavour profile, but a bit longer and richer in the finish....
Yoruba Hacker Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Where to start? RASS - First one I ever had was sublime. The rest have been yawners. Choix Supreme - Just don't get it at all. RYJ Cazadores - Really? These three come to mind when I think of cigars where most of my experiences have been bad based on taste of the cigar, not construction, etc. This doesn't include the annoyingly inconsistent on/off cigars like the Monte 2 and PSD4.
Colt45 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I don't know that I can call any of these a nemesis - I typically don't keep buying cigars I've tried and don't care for. And I also don't really meet the different sources criterion, but here are some I've tried quite a few of and was underwhelmed by: Ramon Allones Specially Selected Saint Luis Rey Double Corona Partagas SD4 A cigar I've smoked less of so gets honorable mention: Cohiba Siglo VI
