smk819 Posted November 23, 2009 Posted November 23, 2009 As usual we will be saving a drumstick for Lisa, the family will be having the rest of the turkey. I don't know how many of my wife's sisters and brothers will be coming for dinner, but we will have a houseful. All of the traditional Thanksgiving foods and many many desserts. I am not sure what I will smoke, I will probably pick it out that morning. I don't have anything old, but I have many of the recent vintage to choose from.
messa Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 A little less than a week away and Turkey day will be here. Dinner with the future inlaws on Wednesday and dinner with my family on Thursday. Planning on having waaaay too much food and probably a Parti Lusi. So, what are you doing for Thanksgiving if anything and more importantly which habano are you going to smoke to celebrate (ironically, the country with a damn embargo) American history and the discovery of the New World? As the say at Habanos SA, "Since 1492". Hosting Thanksgiving at my house with about a dozen or so friends plus kids. I couldn't figure out what I'd smoke after dinner, but since Ken so ardently defended them after I listed them as my cigar nemesis I think I'm gonna take another stab and smoke a partigas Lusi just to make sure I haven't gone mad; however I feel I'm tempting the fates
demiurgic Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Prez, you need to try this combo. A well made apple pie (home made crust), with shavings of sharp cheddar and a dollop of good quality vanilla icecream on the side. I am converted after discovering this works. sharp chedder only with apple pie no other berry/fruit pie. or pumpkin for that matter. It sounds gross, as gross as a bard yard smell in a great cigar.
Rogers72 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 I'm from the south and never heard of anyone putting cheese on Apple Pie. Vanilla Ice Cream is a must on it though.
SamuraiJack Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 ... we typically also play live Native American music. I am one of the Tribal Drummers. Thats so rad dude. Maybe I'll set up my drum kit at the future in-law's place and play Tom Sawyer - drums-only version, in their faces. ... so I'm doing Thanksgiving at my cousin's sister's place. Isn't that just.... your cousin? Don't forget the Cranberry sauce, Turkey's not the same without it! I recommend trying Lingonberry jam instead. So what smoke will be good after a lot nutmeg, cinnamon, berries... a Regios or two me thinks, with a Siglo II for dessert.
MIKA27 Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 Being Italian, we use ricotta in entrees and desserts, lol. But never on pie or icecream (unless its ricotta pie ). Ive seen folks where I live put ketscup on burritos. F(king burritos? They need salsa not ketscup, lol. Well I myself am Austrian/Hungarian and we too make crepes rolled and filled with ricotta, baked in an oven with thickened cream on top to caramelise. What I was mostly commenting on however is the use of Cheddar/tasty cheeses on almost everything. maalouly: 'Well you must try Crepe stuffed with mozarella cheese and nuttela, it's amazing! - It sounds quite strange but I for one am game and will give it a try mate!
samb Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 Happy Thanksgiving to all. In these trying economic and social times, it can be hard to find much to give thanks for; but we have the Czar . Have a safe and happy T-day, eat lots of food, and smoke a fine habano . Edit, I was planning on have a Parti Lusi, but ran out of time and have opted for a CoRo. Wow, is all I can say. This is my first one and it did not disappoint. I got the signature grassiness through thick clouds of creamy smoke that coated my palate leaving a very subtle hint of wine (strange, but thats how it tasted to me when blown through my nose). I smoked it with water to not distort the wonderful tasted of CoRo.
PigFish Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I have plenty to give thanks for. About this time last year I as days away from having a heart attack. My humidor must have been too full to leave to others because I just could not die that day. The good Lord kept me around another year and I have had the delight to be able to torment ya'll by exposing my tangled mind through my irrelevant prose. I am having a member friend over for the day. He has had a tough go this year as well. Even though there won't be a lot of pricey booze around we are going to feast on food, cigars and camaraderie. I love him dearly, he is a great friend and sharing what I can with him, and him with me, means more to me than Rob's allotment of Cohiba Reservas! Enough chick stuff! I have got to pick out some cigars for the day.... get the horses fed and wash the dog. It is gonna' be a day to be thankful for... I can feel it in the air!!! God bless you my friends! - Piggy
Habanos2000 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Happy Thanksgiving Day guys. I found this on the web and wanted to share the origin of the "official" start of Thanksgiving Day with you all. Over 200 years old but relative even now. George Washington's 1789 Thanksgiving Proclamation

MIKA27 Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 Looking at the above pictures Piggy posted, I'd say I have to buy me some new cutlery!
Cletus Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 Happy Thanksgiving day to all our US brethren!Someone please explain to me sharp cheddar and Vanilla Icecream Although I had traditional pumpkin pie yesterday this thread reminded me of how much I LOVE apple pie with a slice of cheddar and ice cream. Yum! Maybe my northern neighbors would kindly explain the appeal of gravy on french fries.
samb Posted November 27, 2009 Author Posted November 27, 2009 Maybe my northern neighbors would kindly explain the appeal of gravy on french fries. I like to dip french fries in cream gravy, lol.
gfoster Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 I have to defend both gravy on french fries AND sharp cheddar on apple pie. If you haven't tried it, don't knock it! The sharpness of the cheese complements the sweet of the apple and it's an amazing combination. As for gravy and french fries, you have gravy on potatoes right? It's just basically that (only better, heh). -- Gary F.
