PADDYWHACK121272 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Just got some MDM Epicure Especial tubos as part of a special offer from my local store together with a stunning HDM oval ashtray...they look great, light oily wrapper, cedar and light spicy tobacco at cold, double robusto size (i think)...thing is while i have found some info on the 2004 EL there is little or no info / reviews on these sticks (08 re-release according to the shop)....anyone have any experience of these or should i just smoke the bloody thing and see?....

stargazer14 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I can give you some info.... They are great! i wasnt impressed when i first got them, but after a year mine are very nice. Full of flavor that changes over the smoke, and I can see these getting better. True, there has not been much talk on these and I like it that way. I've posted before about how under-rated I think these are. I'll take a look at my box code and get back.
Tampa1257 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Smoked one (non-Tubo) yesterday. Typical HdM flavor profile in my opinion, mild building into medium body. The flavors also grew as the cigar developed, slightly creamy, nice cedar tones a little sweet at times. All in all a nice cigar. I don't care for the second band, plain Jane and in my opinion detracts from the cigar experience. I enjoyed the cigar and would rate it 87-88 or a 4 smoke ring cigar. I've had it in my humidor a few months and a longer nap could possibly have helped.
El Presidente Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 They have certainly improved with a little age. The first examples were quite repulsive young. I have revisited once or twice a month and have had either very good experiences or to be honest piss poor. I am still not too sure what to make of this cigar. It is certainly on the radar for a follow up video review. One of the concepts for December video reviews is to re-review cigars we have trashed over the previous 16 months.

Pretty cool idea Are you also taking requests for reviews like you use to? Bart
Kangaroo495 Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Had one the other day. Was an absolute wind tunnel, and taste was revolting. From Jun 08. To be honest, I've never smoked a Hoyo that I liked. 60
PADDYWHACK121272 Posted November 18, 2009 Author Posted November 18, 2009 Here's a link to one review:Link Personally, I'd smoke it and see Thanks for the link and comments - didn't realize that Rob had reviewed it before - will give it a go and report back... If it smokes a good as it looks / feels i may have found another humidor staple Love the idea of the revisiting the poor performers with another video review...looking forward to that....
MIKA27 Posted November 19, 2009 Posted November 19, 2009 I like the HDM EE but often they still have a taste of amonia which I believe only rest in the humi will resolve. Having said that, when I first smoked one earlier on this year, they were not that great but after revisiting the humi only last week, they were alot better.
