Ken Gargett Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 i know that this will amuse ayala and smithers but i have given up. i bought one of these ipod things to put some music on. tried to download some and ended up with 6,000 photos (who knew i had 6,000 photos and how amazing they fit on this tiny thing - yes, i am not overly tech-literate). but do you think i can download music! tried everything. i have a windows system - they told me that would not matter (they also told me it was really simple, but i never believed that). any suggestions would be much appreciated. and for the above mentioned, plus colt, shrink etc, get it out of your system and then be helpful!!!
Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Install the itunes software, connect the ipod, open the itunes software and add music from your pc.
Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Although I should have asked if you do indeed already have mp3s previously downloaded and stored on your computer somewhere ?!?
Ken Gargett Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 Although I should have asked if you do indeed already have mp3s previously downloaded and stored on your computer somewhere ?!? downloaded the whole itunes thingee. is that what you mean? i assume if i can download photos from my computer, then everything should be in place and there is no reason why i can't download music. other than complete tech illiteracy. but just can't work out which buttons/tabs/keys/icons/whatever you call the things to press.
Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Haha ok it sounds as if you have no music on your computer at the moment to transfer to the ipod. In that case you can buy any music you want from itunes itself by going to the "Store" tab in itunes and finding what you want there, or an alternative would be to download music illegally through something like http://www.limewire.com/ .

Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 If you have the music on your computer already: Open itunes while the ipod is connected Open the music tab under 'Devices' in the left hand column in itunes Drag and drop the music from the location on your pc into there and its as good as done.

JMH Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ken, have you already converted some of your CDs to .mp3 files on your computer? I would suggest that you have seperate folders for each CD (ie all individual songs from Born in the USA placed in a folder called Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA) then placing all your individual folders into one folder that you've called Music, or iTunes folder (anything will do). After you've done that, then: 1. Open iTunes 2. Click 'File' in the top left hand corner 3. Go down the list and click on 'Add Folder to Library' That should bring up a browser window, so find your folder called 'Music' (or whatever you called it) and click 'Select Folder'. That should add all your music into iTunes. All you have to do then is plug in your iPod, and it should copy your music across to it.
Buch0 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 much appreciate the efforts.wondering if 'devices' is an apple thing and not on windows? is there an equivalent? No drama mate. I think the devices tab is just universal throughout itunes, whether its installed on windows or not. You got yourself working now ?
CigarmanTim Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 May I suggest downloading Neil Young's "Helpless"
joeypots Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 None of you guys helping out give the most basic direction. Bring up itunes, plug in the ipod, swich the ipod on[/b.]My ipod had me in tears. No matter what I did I could not get itunes to open the window that would put the music on my ipod. I did it a few times and hit the wall. Frustration had me calling my buddy who is a computer guy. He came over, listened to me out line the problem, and simply turned the ipod on. No where, anywhere does it say the thing has to be on, lol, in order to accept files. Who knew? Go ahead, have your fun....
Danashan Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ken, Since you have Windows, I'm pretty sure you have all your imported music in a format that iPod cannot play (Windows Media Format, to be more exact). Do you have any music show up in iTunes? If it is not there, iPod will not be able to see it either. The solutions could be to re-import your CD's using iTunes, buy it again from iTunes store, convert your existing music files into iPod supported format and re-import, or steal it in format that iPod can play. You can read here about some of that. http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/cons...nd-quality.html If you need more help, feel free to drop me PM
Colt45 Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 KG, have you considered taking a job with telstra?
lancashirescott Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ken I would love to see your face whilst your trying to do all this lol, just to add to the other posts, Turn computer on iTunes on iPod connected to computer switched on Put cd in computer and wait till it shows on the left handside panel of iTunes It should now list the album and offer to import it to your iTunes Library but depending on default preferences it might not, if the latter, click on the album in the left hand panel, then once it lists all the tracks in the main window click on "Import CD" button in the lower right it will take a while but when it's done it will convert said album so it can be transferred to your iPod Right you can transfer these songs a number of ways but I find this to be easiest click on "Music" tab top left panel now it will list all the songs you have ever converted here You can just click on any song in the main window so it is highlighted then right click and "select all" now left click but keep the mouse button pressed in all the time, now you can drag all the songs on the screen, move them to your iPod in the left hand panel and release the left mouse button and you should have them now on your iPod!! There are a few things to remember though, if you have say 20 cd's to convert it's easier to convert them all first in your music library then drag and drop into your iPod, BUT if you don't set your preferences up in iTunes you can end up with double even quadruple entries being put onto your iPod, I'm afraid iTunes isn't smart enough yet to recognize if you already have a certain cd already on your iPod, so in short everytime you convert a batch of songs to your music library, once you have dragged them onto your iPod and they have finished being moved (can also take a while) delete all the songs in your MUSIC LIBRARY not your iPod! Then you won't get duplicate transfers. There are other ways to combat this but for now this is pretty much one of the easiest methods! Hope that helps
El Presidente Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Ken. If you haven't by now thrown the "Thingee" in the creek, I will pop around early tomorrow for a vid review and get it working. Don't let Colt get to you....buck up mate. You will master it. You are the reason they test the software/hardware on monkeys first
Esteban77 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Ken, It's very easy. You should have gotten a prompt when you installed iTunes to import music on your computer. If you did not, you can add your music by opening iTunes. All of your music is under your user folder on your computer. Go to my computer, your user folder, and "music". If you used Windows Media Player, all of your downloaded CDs will be under each artist name. Select the folder or folders and drag them into the iTunes window. You will get a prompt asking you if you wish to convert the files. Click the convert button and it will add the selected files. After the files have been converted, select the files from your library and drag them to the iPod icon on the left. I hope this helps. Esteban77
Kangaroo495 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Why not just invest in a boom box? Then you can share your love of Springsteen with everyone in a 200m radius...
Colt45 Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 You are the reason they test the software/hardware on monkeys first Except that the monkeys can figure it out on their own.
habone Posted November 16, 2009 Posted November 16, 2009 Now you can enjoy hours of Barry Manilow and Barbara Streisand!! what a tool...lol
Ken Gargett Posted November 17, 2009 Author Posted November 17, 2009 May I suggest downloading Neil Young's "Helpless" if only i could...
