TrickNick Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 The lot of you are mad. I don't care what anyone says but oysters are rancid. In fact, if I was a moderator I'd consider closing this topic and suspending everyone for their own good. Oysters look rank, smell rank, feel rank and taste......rank. Whatever possessed the first cavebloke to pick one up, open it and go ''You know what , despite having the appearance and aroma of a large ball of snot that has been shagged by a squid, I'm going to eat that''. Must have been a hard day at the caveoffice.Put an oyster in front of your dog or cat, see what they do. Sod not getting into heaven because you've eaten pork or beef or human or whatever - oyster consumption is what'll get you a term in hell. Outrageous. I feel dirty just for having been on this thread It oysters look and smell bad, then your eating crap and/or old oysters. The only smell a fresh oyster should have is the smell of the water is came from. For me, thats usually just a slight salty smell. I have eaten oysters every way imaginable at this point in my life. My favorite is my father's oyster stew. I love them raw and cooked. I can probably cook them 30 different ways without thinking about it. I grew up in a family that works on the water for a living. My dad oysters nearly every winter in the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. Maybe I'm just used to seafood. Regardless, I rarely eat oysters outside of my hometown area, b/c they are rarely fresh enough or up to my exacting standards.

Colt45 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 would you dip your cohiba in honey don't say it, don't say it!..............

Ken Gargett Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Might dip my Diplo in ketchup. now that i think of it, hot english mustard might save most cuabas. you could lick off the mustard and throw away the smoke.

Of course if they're old or gone off they smell even worse, which is an achievment in itself. As for looks....well that's subjective as well I suppose, but if looking like one of Picasso's nightmares is appealing then.... Thinking about it, it's a creature without muscles as they don't really move. So basically you're tucking into a pile of guts. Still, to each their own eh? I like corned beef and pork scratchings so I can hardly talk...

It does appeal, over a nice bit of cuttlefish, snapper or seabass. I'll eat most seafood, I've even 'enjoyed' live ocotpus on a few occasions, but there's something about eating molluscs that's plain wrong. I've tried oysters 3 times, and each time I was sick. To be fair, I think there's something in them that might cause some sort of reaction in me. Oh I know, it'd be the fact that they exist by sifting seaturds and concentrating that seaturd into one little package for you to eat.
buster Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 The lot of you are mad. I don't care what anyone says but oysters are rancid.....Put an oyster in front of your dog or cat, see what they do. LOL Most of the dogs I know sniff every pile of poop, sniff every passing dog's tochas, and drink out of the toilet. Not sure I'd want to be taking my culinary cues from man's best friend I'm w/ Ken: straight up and cold. Sometimes a dash of hot sauce tiny squirt of lemon. I've never tried a few drops of gin or tequila. Hmmm.... Rick
Jimmy2 Posted February 23, 2010 Posted February 23, 2010 On my Birthday for years me and my family get about 10 doz with other seafood and chow down i just love them!!!!

Indeed you did post that before...on this very thread in fact. Ken are you the type of guy who posts repeatedly on forums purely to 'pad your numbers', to enhance your online rep?

Colt45 Posted February 27, 2010 Posted February 27, 2010 clearly my mind has gone to mush. apols. You even posted pictures of the spent shells (actually, the same photo twice). Perhaps when Ayala gets back, you should see him about getting a new watch.

With your keen insight into all things Ayala, I must defer. Given recent Havana happenings, motorcycle skills, etc, if he ever gets tired of being a robber baron, a promising career as crash test dummy awaits.

You make it sound as if he's at a crossroads...... An intervention? ( which direction? )

( which direction? ) an intervention was tried but denial was rife. crossroads? he couldn't find the crossroads with hindsight. i think it too late for any further attempts to set him on the right path and better just to go with the flow. and much more fun.
shortsqueeze Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I love a proper Mignonette Sauce on my oysters. Lemon and or a bit of hot sauce will do, even a dab of fresh cocktail sauce, but not too much.
JMH Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 One side of the family love oysters, yet I've never even tried one. Maybe next time they're on offer.
BlackFriar Posted April 17, 2010 Posted April 17, 2010 i remember a little restaurant in bordeaux that specialised and had an array of the oysters found around brittany and thereabouts. fabulous stuff. would do mixed stuff and the waiter was very keen to chat about them. i always think of people who have never tried oysters as like those who have never heard springsteen or read tolkein or whatever - still one of life's great treats ahead. I don't speak French so I can't remember the name but is "moon" in the name and is it within a block or two of the Gironde? That was the best place I ever had raw oysters. Must have been on a trip in 2000. Gotta love France.
pawnbroker Posted May 1, 2010 Posted May 1, 2010 Here in the south we do a lot of oyster roasts .We steam them until they pop open and them eat the with cocktail sauce and a saltine cracker.Man that's good. Nice fresh oysters right out of the gulf.Big and Juicy.Dont forget about the beer.
cigcars Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Blah!! I love seafood. My family eats calamari (not fried), octopus, shrimp and cod for Christmas. Ive tried caviar (not my fav) and I love crab. I love sushi. Something about letting a slimy, cold, and gooey thing slide down my throat and into my stomach just grosses me out. I dont mind the rawness, but the texture... And the innuendos in that! I dont do oysters on the half shell. If someone wants to fry'em, now those I love! I used to go to Atlantic City every weekend when I was stationed at Fort Dix - MANY moons ago. I LIVED at the Oyster Bar - primarily because there was a band of one-armed bandits that always paid off. Even so, oysters were reasonably safe to eat then. I wouldn't chance it nowadays because of all the chemical waste ending up in the waters. Same with shrimp, which I also loved fried. Cum se, cum sa
