earthson Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Thanks for the tip! I'll look for it. What is its flavor profile? I found the Remy Martin to be fruity and dry. With a lil oaky spice and a touch of sweetness. Man, it's a mouthful! The Marie Duffau tends to be fruity and spicy and not too dry - quite simple with only a handful of discernible notes. The DeLord's, on the other hand, is like tap-dancing praline, nuts, and, truthfully, a complexity that I still cannot entirely fathom. I used to prefer Remy VSOP until I tried Armagnac 2 years ago. I haven't bought a bottle of Cognac since! Even the Hors d'Age Armagnac is quite affordable, typically in the $50-70 range (compared with Cognac of a similar age where the price goes from $100 into the stratosphere)
Lotusguy Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I knew I wouldn't like them the minute I received this box... maduro wrappers = no HDM taste. Some people swear by the LE taste - I do not. Off they go... 2
Knilas Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 @RoRo. Thx for the heads up. The DeLords sounds right up my alley. Now all I have to do is find it. .
Bartolomeo Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 ERDM RE from NL via Andrew Box worthy IMHO 3
BonVivant Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 BTO 13 Esplendido AKA heroin - amazing for such a "fresh" cigar
Lotusguy Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I usually don't care much for Partagas - but this E2 was great! Not as leathery as most Partis. 4

Lotusguy Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Are you partial to Juan Lopez? Not really - except the RE Andorra and the occasional Sel. #2

Popular Post Tino Posted February 17, 2015 Popular Post Posted February 17, 2015 Gloriously sunny day in London so nipped out for a lunchtime Partagas Petit Coronas. Strolling back to the office, I stumbled across Simon Bolivar's old lodgings. 6

Rye Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 I'm long overdue for a revisit of the Allones Extra, and given a new RA EL is on the near horizon, now is as good a time as any 2

I've only sampled one from my box, and they immediately when down for a deep sleep. Have they gotten any better?

Rye Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 How was it? I've only sampled one from my box, and they immediately when down for a deep sleep. Have they gotten any better? Well, I am bias as I've always liked them, but initially only saw the potential. They have IMO improved immensely and the RA profile seems to finally be really breaking through the choco-leather EL wrapper leaf. It was still a little shifty at times and I think time will balance them out yet even better. On a side note, this one was much stronger (nic) then any I remember in the past, yet it was a smoother overall smoke. I would love to experiment with one of these and re wrap one in a different wrapper 3
sengjc Posted February 18, 2015 Posted February 18, 2015 Celebrating the eve of the Chinese New Year with a Cohiba Robusto and a tot of whisky. A little low-key in comparison to what I would be doing in the old home country but I guess this will suit alright. Happy Chinese New Year to all that observe this day of celebration. 3
