An RE Friday with @Nate Chu C&C for a Saturday morning with this Sir Winston from 03. Today is going to be great if this cigar is anything to judge it by. What a super smooth star

First cigar of the year.

C&C ‘14 especiales. Fantastic start to the day C&C with a Monte 4 C&C time today with a Perla picked up from 24:24

For some untold reasons Marc seems to be on an odd quest of late.....

Anyone checked in on him to make sure some squatters didn't do away with him and and are doing the non-cuban posts. LOL!!

Got a cab of BBF's in the mail. Just had to have one after lunch... Ignoring the fact that the box just had travelled across the globe.

A bit loose on the draw. Woody with lots of toasted tobacco. Plenty of smoke. Some sweetness from second third. Kind of "minty on the tongue" in the last third (very similar to a Libertadores I had a while ago). No harshness. Very nice cigar packed with power.

It was very tasty - subtle, of course. Retrohaled every puff.

Unlike the 2008 Cuaba Diademas I had after which was basically hot air plus cedar taste from the coffin. Can't remember last time I smoked something so boring.... Wait, I can: it was a 2008 Cuaba Diademas. Pretty package, zero substance. Put it down at the beginning of the last third because I was beginning to nod off.

Just smoked the first of the 08 Diademas I received lately. After reading your take on it Claus, my curiosity got the better of me and I lighted this big cigar expecting three hours of doing something else to keep me awake wink.png

I must say, I was positively surprised...

The cigar was very well constructed, no hard or soft spots, quite a bit of oil and beautiful colorado wrapper. Cold draw reminded me of dried figs with a bit of cedar. I removed the very foot tip, cut the cap quite far but the draw was firm. I wasn't too worried yet...

I was pairing with a soft, fruity and lightly sweet white wine. After lighting up with a single torch, the first third was uneventfull. It started with a very firm draw and barely any flavours, bit of cedar and hay, with a very subtle touch of that dried fig skin. It all opened up very gradually towards the second third.

Upon the second third, the draw had a nice resistance to it. A sweet accent started jumping in and out, then was quite distinctive and pleasant, with dried figs, soft leather and some light earth, slight cedar aroma. The pairing really did wonders in helping the soft flavours remain to the forefront. The smoke off the foot was quite abundant and enjoyable. I retrohaled often and slight white pepper seemed to join the cedar aroma from time to time.

Around the second half, spice flavours and a tingle on the lips and palate started to join in gradually. Through the last third, the cigar was quite flavourfull, with plenty of cinammon and a bit of cayenne, a touch of earth and that nice sweetness jumping in and out of the blend. The wine seemed to bring a bit of citrus as well out of the overall experience.

I put the stick to rest when the smoke got a bit hot, around 2h45 min after lighting up.

I dunno guys, this was my first experience with the Diademas and I had heard very little positive about it. Maybe it was a dud (albeit a good one wink.png) but I'll see if the other 9 I have left can duplicate this performance in the years to come. Truly a nice surprise smile.png

Sorry for the picture quality, it was quite dark yesterday on the patio...

Glad you had a better experience than me - nice review :)

Note: my box came from a grey market vendor back in 2008 - before I discovered Czar.

Tell you what, if the next one is similar (meaning the first one wasn't a dud), I'll offer to trade you one.
