Chris (chanceshmere) was kind enough to trade a RA 898 with me and the plan was it have it on my birthday earlier this month. I ended up going to Vegas for my birthday and didn't want to take it so I planned to have it when i got home. Ended up coming home with a cold so wanted to wait to be sure I could really get the most out of it. Well today was the day and I paired it with a 42 year old 1965 Girvan, Celtic Heartlands scotch. The scotch I've had before and knew I'd enjoy but this was my first RA 898 and what a treat it ended up being. Totally enjoyed the cigar from start to finish. Thanks Chris, it was awesome. Blakes Posted September 30, 2013 Share Posted September 30, 2013 11 Punch Medalla d'Oro RE courtesy of Riverwild in a trade earlier this Summer...my first one of these, pretty cigar presentation and i love the royal robusto size....smoking the cigar it had a metallic taste of the aluminum the whole time unfortunately.....this is weird because the Punch Platinos and Diademas never had that smell even though they both have the foil as part of the decor....just an aftertaste of metallic is all I experienced unfortunately....glad I was able to try one at least and would like to sample a second one to see how that fairs Bart™ I had one of these about 6 months ago and had the exact same metallic taste. First third was very good. Rest of cigar was okay, but not as good. Worth the price of admission?...I'll have to sample some more to form an opinion. Saturday night: Partagas Coronas Junior out front of the reception. IMO perfect length for the occasion. Allowed me to share some cigars with mates whilst not being away from the reception too long. They've been sitting in my possession for about 10 months or so. Decent stick, but nowhere near as good as the couple I've had that had 10 years of age on them. I've got 10 left from the 30 I bought to distribute so I will let them age and revisit them later. Sunday day: A HdM EL2011 after going to a ring making course. Had a slight persisting bitterness that I don't remember in my original sampling of them. The first one I had was much better. I'll revisit them in 6 months. Sunday night: My first Trini Reyes after getting home and settling down. Really enjoyed the first 1/4 or so, and then it showed its youth. I may buy a few of these to age.
