Celebrating a special Wide Churchill after a decent haul of chanterelles from Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Not celebrating the mushrooms as much as extricating myself from a way-too-close encounter with a mature cougar. Just popped out on the trail barely 30-40 feet away. Despite backing up slowly, yelling, throwing sticks and rocks, he/she kept slowly advancing. May have just been curious, or intrigued by the smell of my cigar, but very happy I was close to my truck. A good lesson on keeping your head up and packing bear spray and bangers. Geez, they're only mushrooms.

A wedding ring usually puts off most cougars here in the UK.
