Popular Post lovethehaze
LAT DIC 17. Lots of lack of love for these. Of the ones I have smoked all have been good to really good. This one is really good. Sweet creamy tobacco, bread, leather and this peprika almost spicy pepper on the tongue every now and then, nice medium all the way through

Chucko8
5 hours ago, sw15825 said: Bolivar BBF, OSU JUL 2003. The pre-draw is nothing that deserves special mention. Some light cedar notes, and just a light, airy tobacco and slightly dusty without the herbaceous, earthy, leathery and spicy ones that I usually do taste in a young BBF. Upon lighting the cigar, there was a very subtle spice, and very creamy and smooth smoke with just the right amount of cedar notes without being overpowering. The cigar was medium bodied/full flavor picking up some strength, slowly, from the 2nd third, to the nub. There was a great, sweet aroma. No rough edge whatsoever, just like I'd expect from a 17 year old cigar that's been stored well. I've had the cab in my humidor for 14 years, so know the cigars have been stored well. That's why I believe a proven provinence is very important in buying aged or vintage stock. I've been burned a couple of times with paying big $$ for something that was not enjoyable and angers one when you think how much each cigar cost that had zero flavor or flavors of dirt and mildew. Anyway, that's for a different post.... ? This cigar was just on point today. And it was hard to put down, until I had to ! I have a few other partial boxes from 2003 and I'm very happy, I feel that year was one of, if not the best vintages from 2000 through 2007, give or take, depending on the cigar. Just to note, I have been experimenting with storing cigars with 8 or so, years of age and older at a slightly higher humidity ( 68%/ 69% ish) for a month or 2 before smoking them, with very good results. 2003 Hoyo Des Dieux. Starting off very nicely. The oils still seeping from the wrapper... BHK 54. BTO MAY 12. To smoke ? ? Or not to smoke ?? What the hell, it's my Birthday and I'm off work today. Popular Post DeeBeezy
JL2 MEL DIC 16. I will preface by saying that I smoked this with a soar throat which for sure impeded my ability to enjoy it as much as I otherwise would have under normal circumstances. The JL2 is a cigar that I had very minimal experience with, the last one I sampled was three years ago. This is a very popular cigar on the forum and Rob seems to rave about them, I wanted to discover what the hype was about. The first third gave a distinct sweet coffee cake flavour on the draw which was accompanied by a creamy note before giving way to a cherry flavour on the finish. As I moved into the second third the coffee cake took a back seat and made way to a spicy chocolate with an orange flavour on the finish. As I moved into the last third the prominent coffee cake flavour was back This time with a general citrus on the finish. This cigar was very distinct and complex the flavours were easily detectable. This was arguably The most full flavoured Cuban cigar I have had in a long while. Whilst I did enjoy the cigar and can’t fault it for much I have a few criticisms. The fruity flavours that came from this stick were a tad bitter for my liking. Furthermore, in such a crowded robusto market I cannot say that I would rush out to grab a 5 boxes of these. Having said that I did recently order a clearance box and will look forward to trying those. complex cigar, flavours perhaps not exactly in my wheelhouse. 91 points from me.
