Popular Post sw15825 Posted July 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2020 Bolivar BBF, OSU JUL 2003. The pre-draw is nothing that deserves special mention. Some light cedar notes, and just a light, airy tobacco and slightly dusty without the herbaceous, earthy, leathery and spicy ones that I usually do taste in a young BBF. Upon lighting the cigar, there was a very subtle spice, and very creamy and smooth smoke with just the right amount of cedar notes without being overpowering. The cigar was medium bodied/full flavor picking up some strength, slowly, from the 2nd third, to the nub. There was a great, sweet aroma. No rough edge whatsoever, just like I'd expect from a 17 year old cigar that's been stored well. I've had the cab in my humidor for 14 years, so know the cigars have been stored well. That's why I believe a proven provinence is very important in buying aged or vintage stock. I've been burned a couple of times with paying big $$ for something that was not enjoyable and angers one when you think how much each cigar cost that had zero flavor or flavors of dirt and mildew. Anyway, that's for a different post.... ? This cigar was just on point today. And it was hard to put down, until I had to ! I have a few other partial boxes from 2003 and I'm very happy, I feel that year was one of, if not the best vintages from 2000 through 2007, give or take, depending on the cigar. Just to note, I have been experimenting with storing cigars with 8 or so, years of age and older at a slightly higher humidity ( 68%/ 69% ish) for a month or 2 before smoking them, with very good results. 2003 Hoyo Des Dieux. Starting off very nicely. The oils still seeping from the wrapper... BHK 54. BTO MAY 12. To smoke ? ? Or not to smoke ?? What the hell, it's my Birthday and I'm off work today. Popular Post maverickdrinker Posted July 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2020 Great review, John. I have a few boxes of these and can attest to how well they're smoking right now. I don't have any experience as to how they were smoking when young, however over the last year I've gone through a box and they have all been excellent. Cocoa, Nutella, espresso and dried plum with some molasses on the retro. For the price of what they were when they came out, I wish I had 20+ boxes stashed away somewhere for years to come. Looks like we all have a similar experience. My full review will be posted on my blog on July 24th, however, here were my final impressionsThis was a very different experience to the 2012 LCDH Exclusivo Ramon Allones Superiores. More in line with the traditional Ramon Allones flavour profile with the balance between savoury and sweet. I think the darker wrapper continued to the sweetness level, enhancing the experience. Glad to see that everything has come together while in slumber. Nice complexity and nuance at this stage. Unsure if there is room to evolve. May be hitting its peak as there was no harshness to speak of and the balance between strength and flavour profile was on point. Give it a try if you have these in your humidor. Would love to hear your view on this vitola. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 4 1

Popular Post JohnS Posted July 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2020 Montecristo Leyenda LGR Sep 2018 The Montecristo Leyenda is part of the Linea 1935 series, a group of three cigars (the others are the Dumas and Maltes) which are the Montecristo version of the Cohiba Behike series. Its dimensions are identical to the 2015 Montecristo 80 Aniversario release, that is big...a Maravillas No.2 cigar with a 55 ring gauge by 165 mm (or 6½ inches) length. These have been marketed as been fuller in strength (or is it flavour, or possibly both?), but I consistently found these to be suitably medium to medium-mild. This Leyenda wasn't as light as an Especiales No.2, for example, but it was nowhere near as strong as some Petit Edmundos or even Montecristo No. 4's I've had. It was fuller than the late-2016 Montecristo 80 Aniversario I had last week though. This had nowhere near the amount of marshmallow-textured creaminess to it as the aforementioned Montecristo 80 Aniversario smoked recently nor my last Leyenda smoked around nine months ago. It did have strong notes of cocoa, cedar and almond nuts. At times I got hints of pepper in the middle third and more so into the final third. The cigar got a little intense into the last third and I extinguished it with around two-thirds of an inch left of the cigar. For a premium cigar, I was a little disappointed at the flaky ash and the two or three re-lights from the cigar going out. Otherwise, this was every bit as good as all the other Leyendas I have had in general, albeit it was fuller in flavour and strength. Whilst I have stated in my last review on the Montecristo Linea 1935 Maltes that overall I feel the Linea 1935 is a disappointing release, due to its premium marketing and price point, I will continue to laud the virtues of the Leyenda and I will continue to seek it out and enjoy it on occasion, unlike the Maltes and Dumas. 29

This one is really good. Sweet creamy tobacco, bread, leather and this peprika almost spicy pepper on the tongue every now and then, nice medium all the way through 27

Popular Post DeeBeezy Posted July 21, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 21, 2020 JL2 MEL DIC 16. I will preface by saying that I smoked this with a soar throat which for sure impeded my ability to enjoy it as much as I otherwise would have under normal circumstances. The JL2 is a cigar that I had very minimal experience with, the last one I sampled was three years ago. This is a very popular cigar on the forum and Rob seems to rave about them, I wanted to discover what the hype was about. The first third gave a distinct sweet coffee cake flavour on the draw which was accompanied by a creamy note before giving way to a cherry flavour on the finish. As I moved into the second third the coffee cake took a back seat and made way to a spicy chocolate with an orange flavour on the finish. As I moved into the last third the prominent coffee cake flavour was back This time with a general citrus on the finish. This cigar was very distinct and complex the flavours were easily detectable. This was arguably The most full flavoured Cuban cigar I have had in a long while. Whilst I did enjoy the cigar and can’t fault it for much I have a few criticisms. The fruity flavours that came from this stick were a tad bitter for my liking. Furthermore, in such a crowded robusto market I cannot say that I would rush out to grab a 5 boxes of these. Having said that I did recently order a clearance box and will look forward to trying those. complex cigar, flavours perhaps not exactly in my wheelhouse. 91 points from me. 26
