Lotusguy Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 1980's Diplomatico #7... great cigar with plenty of balls left. Nice!!! How do they compare to the Dip 1 and/or Dip 3?
headstand Posted November 3, 2012 Posted November 3, 2012 Q'D Corona - bit underwhelming first third but built up to a good finish.
brazoseagle Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Sta Sep 09 bgm. So good Me too, same cigar, same box code .... So good!
Lotusguy Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 An outstanding Por Larranaga Valiosos RE Suiza. Too bad it is my only one and they are so expensive. Loads of caramel. Paired with Aberlour A'Bunadh neat.
Lotusguy Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Punch Super Robusto ER Asia Pacifico. Very nice!
Pilgrims Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Had my first ever Monte No3 and it was ok, no more no less, a little dull but decent...no idea of box code as it was a single but I'd say it was 2010 or early 2011
davidsan Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 enjoyed a lovely Boli RC DEC 10 under the patio while a thunder storm rolled through, and reading a good book. Great Sunday afternoon.
bigharpoon Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 PLPC from 09. Pretty good but a little boring. Once I go through my stock of them I don't see a box purchase in my future.
LDOG Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Battled through my cough and enjoyed a Punch Coronation. A tad boring in some places but remained creamy and hints of berries / toasted tobacco. Got a bit sickly in the last third. Got one more left! iExplore on my Tappytalk part duex
Puros Y Vino Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 A chilly but decent day in Toronto. My neighbour and I were both raking leaves so I invited him over for some cigars and Scotch. We sat out back on my deck enjoying some Monte Edmundo and MacAllan. Great afternoon, great buzz.
mbrody Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Took the dog out for a walk and sparked an 08 HuP Connie 1. Aces. Enjoyable now, stronger than your average Connie 1, with plenty of legs for the long haul...
LGC Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 Nice, too late to do a review on it? Would love to know just that little bit more about this cigar... Nice!!! How do they compare to the Dip 1 and/or Dip 3? To be quite honest, I haven't smoked enough Diplo's to make a fair comparison between the older and newer blends. I decided to light up a 2008 Diplo 5 just to jog my memory. The Diplo 5 I'm smoking now is floral, leathery, woodsy, nutty... with a little spice. I have smoked 1 Diplo 7 before this one, but it was not memorable at all. I paid a decent amount for it, and it was very beat up... and probably poorly stored. The one I just smoked was impeccable. The draw was perfect, and the wrapper was oily and in great condition. Like any vintage cigar, it was mild and a little musty off the bat. A handful of puffs in... I knew I was in for a real treat. The profile didn't strike me as the typical Diplomatico that I remember. There was a good bit of spice early on. I was surprised by the earthy, dark espresso flavors that I was getting. At times, it kind of reminded me of a quality Partagas with a certain sweet, spicy, leathery quality. There was also a slight floral quality that came through. The aromas coming off were absolutely heavenly. It kind of reminded me of the vintage 70's and 80's Bolivar Corona Extras that I've been fortunate to have smoked. If you come across some that are in great condition, I wouldn't hesitate in picking some up. I remember having the chance to pick up a full box at one time. While I was arranging the purchase with the vendor, he informed me that he had already sold the box to someone else. I was pissed off about the whole thing... to say the least. I have 1 more remaining, with a lighter wrapper. I'll be saving it for a special occasion.
dangolf18 Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 A Diplo 7, wow! Brandon, have you ever had a Monte 6 or 7 by chance?

Still, 1 left... that's a whole lot more than any of us will ever have...
Charltonc Posted November 4, 2012 Posted November 4, 2012 stellar, HDM petit robusto, my favorite fresh cigar at the moment, and I hate the size.

I have gotten some Paprika from pretty much every Dip I've ever smoked (all 2002 or newer, though) - sounds like this one was a whole different animal.
Guest RobbieG Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Never smoked one but I've heard from several people that both older and newer Diplos are perhaps the most underrated and under explored of the Cuban brands. riazp Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 Well last night I had my first cigars in over a couple of weeks. I was in need to get out of my house. So i went to stogies and had a Dip 4 and a monte Petit Edmundo. Both very good. Probably wont smoke anything else for a couple of weeks.
Ophidion Posted November 5, 2012 Posted November 5, 2012 I am about to smoke a dip 4 (OPM FEB 09) from one of the two boxes I just picked up (the other is OPM MAR 09). Pretty stoked to see how these are as dip 4s have been a favorite since Riaz gave me one to try earlier this year. I still cant believe I was able to find multiple boxes stateside.. good timing I suppose.
Ophidion Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Couldn't smoke this earlier like I had planned. Then I got home and saw that power had been restored (170 hours later) and couldn't resist despite the biting cold Extremely smooth and perfect draw. Going to have to put one of these boxes in the bank so I don't plow through the other 49
mazolaman Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 Rafael Gonzales Petit Corona..nice, almost minty easy smoke, getting down to a herbal finnish..classy.
maverickdrinker Posted November 6, 2012 Posted November 6, 2012 One of these to start my afternoon....
