This morning, I impatiently started this cigar in the parking lot of the cigar lounge while I was waiting for it to open.  It has a nice aroma, good pre light draw and seems to be of decent construction.  Colorado maduro wrapper, just a shade lighter than the typical maduro/oscuro I see in most EL’s.  

In the first 1/3, I am getting a woody flavor, that to my billy goat’s palate, tastes like oak or a whiskey that has been aged in an oak cask, along with a bitter (in a good way) orange taste that you might find in a orange rind, and some black pepper.  It is eerily reminiscent of the scent coming from the Old Fashioned my friend was drinking at dinner the other night.  

In the second 1/3 black pepper becomes predominant, but I still get hints of the wood, and orange rind that seems to be transforming into another flavor that I can't put my finger on.

The final 1/3 actually has become smoother than the first 2/3.  It is still peppery, but less so.  Add in some leather which I think is giving it it’s smoothness.  The oak is in the background, but I am tasting a lot of spices, like when my wife decides she wants to experiment by adding with 5 or 6 different spices to whatever it is she is cooking for dinner.

My biggest complaint about most EL’s is that they are boring.  They tend to have an overpowering oscuro EL wrapper that completely destroys any complexity that the blend might otherwise have.  That is not the case with this cigar.  It is a good, complex, and enjoyable cigar.  It is not the typical flavor profile that I seek, but if I had bought a box, I would not feel like my money has been wasted.  It is a flavor profile that many cigar smokers like, and for them, given 2 or 3 years to mellow out a little, I think this cigar is a definite win.

Sig VI from 2015. Beautiful cigar, and fine construction. This played the milk coffee side of Cohiba, with some sweet grassiness but that was secondary. Started very mild and steadily built up.  Perhaps this suffered a little from being smoked outside on a windy night, but I’m left just a touch underwhelmed. Sure it’s good, but no better than a good Connie A or E2, and it’s twice the price. Ahhh Cohiba... the erratic stimulus is the most addictive.

I have smoked Siglo VI from many years, 2003 thru 2015, I have a partial box from 2010. It's a nice cigar but to me has always left me a little underwhelmed. You could source them around 20 dollars or so a stick, box price not too many years ago. It's ike there's not a greatness that justifies the current asking price. I would take a Connie A, E2 and even a Upman mag 50 over it, for one 3rd the price. The only Cohiba I would pay the price of admission for is CORO and Siglo V, and that's usually when I see a discount price on them. Lancero's and CCE, forget about seeing a discount to what it's worth. Over the last few years most merchants are asking way more than the 6 is worth, and Cohiba in general, imho.

Decided I could end Sunday without a CC, so pulled out a  ‘17 BPC which blew me away. An ultimately better version of the NC I had earlier.  Perfect amount of honey sweetness over dark cocoa/coffee/earth.  Best BPC I’d ever had. 

 

And then right now this ULA JUL 15 courtesy of @lovethehaze which is just fantastic.
