Lusitania was plugged. So half way through I ditch it. Realizes why I have so many 99 Lusi in my Humidor. P2 was just ok. D4 was the star of the bunch. It was bold with coffee like character. With honey and woody flavors mixed in. Didn't get to smoke the HdM DC. Will try this Friday

C&C Time @Raskol MC#4 PSP REG MAY 18. This box has been crackers. The dark cocoa and sweet cream notes are really coming through after 6 months in the humidor. Cheers

Trinidad Robustos Extra OUS Sep 2009

The last time I smoked one of these I shared it with Trevor Leask, the founder of Cuban Cigar Website. He hadn't smoked a cigar for a little while due to colder weather but having done so, he profusely thanked me for the opportunity, purporting that the Trinidad Robusto Extra had re-claimed his passion for smoking Habanos cigars. I reflected on that statement, concluding that it was quite an accolade. After smoking one today, Trevor's statement took on a new meaning.

The next time I shared this cigar it was with the proprietor of Cuban Cigar Website, Alexander Groom. Despite the poor weather (Sydney has been struggling with air pollution this summer season due to bushfire smoke from its surrounding vicinities), Alex and I both nubbed our cigars to our fingertips. The Trinidad Robusto Extra was sadly discontinued in 2012, but what a cigar it was. It doesn't share the trend of the latest Trinidad offerings, which are strong in coffee and dough, rather this was more mild barnyard hay, tea, honey and butter. An exquisite cigar to smoke from beginning to end, it was quite a shame to put it out.

Well may you ask if I included this cigar in El Pres' recent Xmas Sampler gift from the Sydney members? You bet I did!

Cohiba Siglo IV.  Rich.  Damm rich.  White pepper, grass, cream, quality toasted tobacco, earth towards the end.  The cold aroma was like a fresh jar of honey with a hint of barnyard. Straight ?

ESL MAR19 Rio Seco

 

First Rio Seco and first cigar boxed in 19. Surpringly approachable for its age. Mild- Medium. Not a whole lot going on. Prefer the San Juan at this point.

As the cigar warmed up it showed how horribly underfilled it was. This is one of the worst cigars I smoked this year.

I wasn't taking notes but I do remember a few things.

Definitely an aged cigar. It had a "chalky" mouthfeel. Something I tend to get with vintage sticks.  The tasting notes were as such. Cocoa, cedar, earth/mushroom, toasty tobacco.  For an old cigar, I'd put it on the "bold" side, even though there wasn't any nicotine hit. It was very smooth.  It had what I hoped for.  A constant transition in tasting notes.   I would imagine that the cigar must have been a real powerhouse when fresh.  It also made a ton of blue smoke.  I nubbed it until my fingers started to burn.  Aged cigars are always a gamble. In this case I won the draw.
