H. Upmann Magnum 56 2015 - Edición Limitada SOM Dic 2015

My last H.Upmann Magnum 56 was disappointing in comparison to the ones I had within a 12-month window in 2016. As a result, I figured it was time to smoke another to gauge a better idea as to whether the last one was an anomaly or not.

Again, I found the ash flaky but more importantly, the wrapper was a touch dry. Even when I used my Credo 3-in-1 punch cutter to open up the draw on this behemoth, it still induced a crack in the wrapper which unwound it after the midway point. Thereafter I smoke it with just the binder. What can I say? What a shame!

At least the flavours were better than last time, which I concerningly noted as muted overall. This had a strong combination of light chocolate and Upmann shortbread, with sweet licorice and decent notes of white pepper. The flavours were good...if only the construction of this cigar did not let me down I envisage that it would have been a decent cigar.

I’m really enjoying this little Upmann EL.

We are taking the kids out of school at 10AM today so we can beat the Thanksgiving traffic up to Vermont.  The relatives are all over the place this Thanksgiving, so we decided to go off on our own as well and make a ski weekend out of it.

Lusi Gran Reserva. This is my official Thanksgiving cigar as tomorrow I am the head chef and I’ll be celebrating turkey day with our first child...my son turns 1 on December 4th so I’ll be smoking a quickie or two out on the back deck. Needless to say, I have a lot to be thankful for. Luckily I can drink champagne and eat caviar tomorrow so the gluttony will continue. 

Fantastic fantastic cigar. If I could only smoke this cigar the rest of my life I’d be 100% on board.

These have become magnificent. Full on flavors. I couldn't ask for more.  The split in the wrapper was treated with cigar glue months ago. Didn't affect the cigar at all. When Connie 1 is like this, it seems no other Upmann can match it. 

Met up with a BOTL from another forum in downtown Napa. 

Great time, great cigars.

Yo, I just saw S.T. Dupont Defi Extreme from your QdO 54 pic ?! Is it better than XIKAR lighters? I found Defi Extreme has the exactly same usage (side squeeze action and flame adjustment wheel) as XIKAR Executive II, but fancier apperance (looks better than Executive II) which I really like! So, I'm thinking about getting Defi Extreme in the future ?.
