BTW I loved the old brown bands on the Monarchs. I think they changed them in 2005. These are from a box, not A/T. Only have 4 left. Yes love these older bands 2
Popular Post Edward7 Posted November 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2019 Tonight I lit a gift from a friend who goes to Cuba every other month to go to Laguito. Apparently this is some Trinidad that didn’t make the cut to be some special limited release of sorts. Big ring gauge and pretty spectacular. I haven’t had a Behike 56 but I think this was really close in size. The best way to describe it is to say that it tasted like what the best La Trova should have tasted like. 14

This is the second one I've had, and whilst it was better than the first, that's not saying much as that was so supremely ordinary that this was just on average in comparison. When these Linea 1935 cigars are 'on', you get a beautiful sweet, milk fine chocolate coated in whiffs of cream and marshmallow. You may also get some almond nut and cedar. This Maltes opened with some citrus twang and almond nut and pretty much stayed that way until the end. There was no real milk chocolate, cream, marshmallow or even biscuit. Overall, I must say that I'm disappointed with the Linea 1935 releases. Of the three, I've only found the Leyenda consistent, and even then I've had an average one amongst the four or five of those I've smoked, with the others ranging from very good to outstanding. I've also had an excellent and ordinary Dumas and an ordinary and dreadfully bland Maltes. Perhaps these need a little time to be fair? I would hope so, as thus far they aren't worth the premium price that they retail for, in my opinion. I agree that Leyenda is the best of bunch for Linea 1935! Haven't tried Maltes yet, but I can tell Dumas isn't that great compare to its similar sized peers, Corona Extra and Robustos (prefer JL2, RASS, CORO over Dumas). Also, with the price of Dumas, I can buy a box of other CCs like Connie A! 2

I still have one in the humi. Gonna leave it for at least 6 month, see whar happens. But I wont be buying more. Agree with you! For Linea 1935, I definitely buy Leyenda only, and spend coins for other great CCs! Will get a box of Leyenda for ageing, and see how does it evolves ?.

Popular Post David88 Posted November 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2019 A Leyenda for me last night. When it comes to the 1935 series I was initially blown away, I bought singles of all three and the leyenda and Dumas were some of the best cigars I’ve smoked (the maltes was okay). I’ve since bought a few more singles of each to try before committing to a box and my experience seems to be echoing that of JohnS. This leyenda was a good cigar but the first inch was very mild. Flavours did pick up with a nice cocoa, cream and nut flavour coming in and the body picked up. However it was nowhere near as good as the first I sampled. The recent Dumas I had was distinctly average too. Construction was great and I know you get variance in cigars, but I do think these need to up their game a bit as you would currently need to question their value with the price they’re going for. I have one more of each left resting in my humidor app I will see how they go over the next few months. 15

Popular Post JohnS Posted November 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2019 Rafael González Perlas OPG Ene 2015 (Thanks @Luca) It seems every time I have one of these I reflect to myself why I don't have them more often than I do? Is it because they are an occasional delicacy? One thing I do know, Rafael Gonzalez, as a marca, is an unsung hero in the Habanos catalogue. Most people aren't aware of it (judging by how few special releases there are of this marca), but the enthusiasts certainly are. I must thank @Luca for gifting this perlas to me, it was just sensational. Cocoa, some honey sweetness and floral notes over a 30-minute joyride, yes...this was just perfect. I always marvel at the Rafael Gonzalez dress box lid exhortation to smoke these 'within 30 days or carefully mature for about a year'. Trust me, you can easily go three to five years on these and they lose nothing in quality, but what they gain in flavourful enjoyment is often priceless. 24 2
Popular Post Rhinoww Posted November 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2019 A very fresh J-O EL. dryboxed for a few days to try one out before the long sleep. Very pleasant and mellow. No Mongrel at all, which was surprising given that these just came off the island. Enjoyable. Will be interesting to see how the complexities develop over time. Hopefully like the other Party E2’s. Time will be my judge. as the weather turns though I believe the shorts and PC will be getting more of the workouts. 15

I really like these a whole lot better than the pc ...what are your thoughts on the comparison ? I find the Pc to be very dull comparably; and the perla, adequately aged, isn’t rough around the edges in any sense I had a look at my notes on my recent Rafael Gonzalez cigar within my inventory on Cuban Cigar Website. The last time I had a Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas was 12 months ago and I was surprised it was that long. I had called down an UTE Oct 2015 RGPC box from my on-line humidor in August 2018 and I have smoked 8 of them and gifted 12. That may seem extraordinarily generous, but a number of dear friends in our hobby gift me cigars now and then, and this brand, vitola and its age lent itself to handing out more than usual as it represented a Habanos cigar that would not be in people's rotation, so-to-speak. Now, of those 8 I would say that I enjoyed at least 6 of them, the other two were affected by smoking on a humid or wet night. They had more wood or cedar than the RG Perlas, but otherwise the cocoa, floral notes and honey and/or vanilla spice was there, you know... typical flavours representing the marca. I have 5 left and I think I wanted to rest them a little longer to see how they are progressing, however, the cocoa in the RG Petit Coronas is not as abundant as a RG Perlas of the same age or a Montecristo No.4, in general. For that reason, I opine that the Rafael Gonzalez Petit Coronas is not a cigar that most of us cigar enthusiasts would reach for instead of a Rafael Gonzalez Perlas. As mentioned, the cocoa flavour stands out a little less and the Perlas is more distinctive within its vitola range, it would be the mildest of the lot (San Cristobal El Principe, Cohiba Siglo I, Montecristo 5, Ramon Allones Small Club Corona, Trinidad Reyes et al.) hence its probable popularity. Maybe the RG Petit Corona is overshadowed by the Montecristo No.4? If I were to compare those two cigars to say a RG Perlas and Montecristo No.5, I would say the Perlas and Monte 5 would have more of a range across a number of characteristics related to palate than the Monte 4 and RG Petit Coronas. 6 1
Popular Post Chef Posted November 8, 2019 Popular Post Posted November 8, 2019 This one is definitely still pretty full. I'd say medium-full on a CC scale; medium+ on a NC scale. The chocolate and earth, some of my favorite flavors in a cigar, definitely showcased their strength. I watched Rob, Ken, and Smithy's review of this cigar from a while back, and so far I'm missing that stewed fruit component they spoke of. That part of the flavor profile is either aged out, or this sample never had it. To be fair, I'm only half way through, so maybe it'll show up. Either way, it's been a long week, and this cigar was the right way to smoke my cares away....at least for a little while. Some nice nuttiness now....and practicing my Halfwheel grip... 22
