Popular Post RDB Posted August 2, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 2, 2019 Well... that was a near perfect cigar experience. End of a long and tiring journey: London > Dubai > Entebbe > Kampala. I bought a wonderful looking box of La Gloria Cubana MdO no.4 on the way, and could not resist smoking one when I finally made it to my hotel. Code is ETP ENE 17, and they are a glorious rich vibrant colorado with a hint of golden rosado. First one I clipped was a little tight, so I put it back in the box. Second one I chose more carefully, and had the perfect draw. Then a balcony smoke in the hot afternoon sun with a beer. Wow. My first ever of these, and I totally get the strong love. It was just outrageously tasty, and wildly complex. A deep, intense, jellied fruit. Like burnt apple crumble, or something like quince, or perhaps over-ripe apricots. Plus a fatty, spicy, animale richness. Frying pan about to turn, perhaps with cumin, maybe a touch of cardamom in it. Then hot fertile earth, mulch and clay at the same time. So much smoke and flavour. Brilliant! 31

Popular Post JohnS Posted August 2, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 2, 2019 Vegas Robaina Famosos AEM May 2015 I had a Vegas Robaina Famosos from this box a few days ago so I felt I should reach for another to compare the first one. At four years rested I must say that I have found the first two cigars smoked quite intriguing. This second one had a light chocolate and raisin sweetness throughout, the main flavours were the grass or pure tobacco flavour and baking spice which overall made this cigar quite subtle on the palate and a pleasure to nub. I don't feel inclined to have this cigar in my 'go-to' rotation though as after smoking two thus far, it lacks a dominant strong flavour which other cigars in my rotation possess (e.g. the caramel in a Por Larranaga Montecarlos or the molasses in a San Cristobal de La Habana El Principe et al.). However, I do think that for a change-of-pace option this type of cigar is a superb choice. 19

Popular Post Deeg Posted August 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 3, 2019 BPC, ULA JUL 14. Did you ever (and I'm guessing you have - I mean, you're here) smoke one of those sticks that make you say "Now see - that's why I smoke CC?" I have a long history with Boli PCs - it was the second box (or maybe third) I ever bought. There's something so ineffably Cuban about them when they're right - rich deep barnyard, leather, tart citrus, sweet prunes, fresh biscuit. Strong, but an iron fist in a velvet glove. For someone who lives in a country where pricing makes B&M shopping a non-starter, the chance to access aged stock is a rare delight. My only problem with these cigars is that the wrappers are so leathery and oily ("lovely stains on the paper" is how Rob described them in the 24:24) that they just won't burn straight. I mean, your hand is coated with oils as the heat of the fuse releases them. If you've ever owned a wonderful old leather jacket that's still in great shape you know what the wrappers on these feel like - somehow simultaneously smooth and textured, abjectly sensual to the touch. C&C with LGR AGO 18 Montecarlos, courtesy of the splendidly generous @JohnS. Definitely love these with the lighter wrappers. 28
