Then I put this mangled Leyenda out of its misery. Surprisingly, the draw was fine and the binder held it together until the nub. Nice, amped up Montecristo profile but a Monte 80th anniversary it is not.

Cracked open a box of Lusiadas that I picked up in Cuba. DIC17

These blew me away. A more pungent and fuller bodied BBF with a sweet smell that lingered on your lips. Intoxicating floral and leathery chocolate flavor.

So, here is a Punch Punch from UTE SEP 16, one of the older boxes that Rob found recently. Claro I’d say, perhaps just slightly on the darker side of claro: honey tan leather. Very thin wrapper, and smooth appearance. Burns well, and it’s surprisingly mild in body. Gorgeous exotic wood spice, complex and with a touch of sweetness. I was looking for clove but found more fennel seed. This was perhaps a bit dry, and burned quite fast, but didn’t get hot or bitter at all. Much milder all round than the young Punch Punch I had a month or so ago. Great morning smoke here in Cape Town, with the clouds on Table Mountain in the background. Delighted this is the first of a box. Fire ‘em up!

 

A very rare two-smoke day for me... away from home and kids. This evening a Vegas Robaina Famosos ARS AGO 18. Yowza. Colorado Maduro, and feeling quite damp despite six weeks at low 60s RH. My first of these, and it did not disappoint. So full of rich flavour! Maybe not the most complex smoke, but really intense dark beer, chocolate, and yes the sweet prune flavour that Rob calls. Burn was pretty eratic, but that’s surely just the youth. Damn these are tasty, and for sure at one end of the refinement vs power spectrum. I only bought six of these, so I’ll definitely get a box now to follow the evolution.

Finally caved and tried my first one. Wow, blown away. Ive only had 1 of the new banded Coronas and I only have one specimen of the 54, they sell out too fast! Fantastic smoke, so creamy you can chew the smoke! Photo keeps failing to load so I'll edit it in later.

 

Apparently a qdo 50 looks like an adult picture and can not be uploaded via Tapatalk. Oh well, I tried 3 different pictures and editing each picture, won't take it.

Cuaba Piramides 2008 - Edición Limitada TEB Sep 2008

Thank you @Luca for gifting me this cigar. This cigar has been touted on our forum as the best Cuaba release at times, by various members, and after smoking this I can see why. The main accolade I can give it is the core citrus/orange tang to it that stayed with me for quite some time afterwards. Luca described it like a anise or licorice tang. However one describes it, it makes this stand out from normal Cuabas.

In comparison to other Cuabas I've smoked, this was muted on nut and shortbread flavours and obviously contained chocolate flavours due to the maduro-shade wrapper. If you are adverse to Cuaba in general, do yourself a favour, and give this a chance. It's quite good for the marca and for a Limited Edition Series cigar in general.
