I caved.

I cut a PSP2 and the cold draw was very tight. Decided I didn’t want to futz with draw issues tonight. 

I decided to step out of my comfort zone and try an NC I had lying around the humi. First few draws were ok. I got ~6 draws in and it started to taste like popoo doodie farts (how I describe the thing I dislike about NCs and upmanns - @awkwardPause describes it as ‘ashtray mouth’). I gave up on that right quick. 

So I said screw it. Against my better judgment I lit up this PMS NOV 13 perla that jut came in today. My previous experiences with perlas has lead me to the idea that they need a particularly long rest after shipping. This is really shattering that notion. Excellent.  I’m thinking my previous assessment was more a function of the fact that the last perlas I’d had were shipped and smoked in the DC summer (1,000,000% RH and 893 degrees KELVIN).

This had been sitting for a couple of months. I was disappointed, because it was Not as good as the first one I tried a about 3 months ago. Draw was very tight.

OPG NOV 13 rg perlas ROTT. Just as good as the other box. Dark chocolate, cloves, cedar, cinnamon, truffles, pepper - pure delight.

1. La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 ETP Oct 2015 (thanks @Luca!)

Thank you @Luca for celebrating a milestone by gifting me this awesome thin ring-gauged cigar! This had everything you could wish for...it was already aged over 3 years, it was marvellously complex and smooth and it wasn't affected by the humid conditions of a showery summer's night.

The La Gloria Cubana Medaille d'Or No.4 is often characterised for its fruit and spice, and this was evident in this instance, but its also noted for its herbal, woody and cream flavours. I was fortunate to hit upon a combination of these with this cigar. I shared one with @IanMcLean68 and @Fuzz this night and the LGC Medaille d'Or No. 4's from this box were universally praised as more than worthy of the special occasion.

2. Partagás Shorts GEO Mar 2015 (thanks @IanMcLean68!)

Thank you @IanMcLean68 for gifting me this cigar. I couldn't exactly recall the last time I've had a Partagas Shorts, but I believe it was sometime in mid-to-late 2017. This was almost 4 years old, from a reputable box code, and boy it was delicious! Partagas sourdough, light black coffee, leather and cedar were the main notes I got from it, but at times it was a little sweet on my palate (like licorice), especially in the first third. The smoke output was stupendous, I just could believe how much smoke this offered per draw!
