Popular Post JohnS Posted January 24, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 24, 2019 1. Por Larrañaga Montecarlos LGR Oct 2017 Sometimes a cigar surprises you and this was such a time. The wrapper on this, in comparison to my other Por Larranaga Montecarlos box (which contains mottled, oily and almost colorado maduro wrappers on each cigar) was rustic, yellow/brown and non-descriptive, if you saw this in a Bricks and Mortar store you'd surely move on to the next box. However, one puff on this cigar after lighting and I was truly in heaven. This was caramel, honey, milk coffee and toast goodness all the way. I just could not believe how spectacular this was! I shared one with my brother-in-law @Cuzz and he felt exactly the same way! 2. San Cristóbal de La Habana El Príncipe TOS Jun 2016 In comparison to the Por Larranaga Montecarlos I had prior to lighting this cigar, this was a major disappointment, but only because it was a standard El Principe. Cocoa, molasses and coffee throughout, it was a little more intense than what I prefer but overall it was fine, I didn't pitch it or dislike it. 27

Funny you say that. When lookjng at that pic, before reading your post, I instantly thought to myself, what a nice wrapper on that Montecarlo John got there..., haha, monitor setting perhaps... 1

This is precisely why I don't put so much stock into the importance of wrapper appearance. If anything, I prefer to: 1. Inspect the foot. If the bunching is even, good. If there are tight spots and loose spots, I worry a bit. 2. Squeeze test. Consistent amount of give all the way up, good. Lumpy here and spongy there, with a rock at the band from bunching for the cap? I worry. 3. Smell test. If I open the box and the smell brings back memories or just plain gives me the fizz, great. Bland? I'll let em sit for 2 months and see if they just needed rest. A rested box that still smells bland is usually a bad sign, in my experience. I think that construction and overall aroma are far better indicators of the quality of smoke a cigar will provide, than the aesthetic of the wrapper. Edit: LGR 17 is La Corona (Same for TOS 16). The SCDLH and PL stuff coming out of La Corona in 16/17 just seems to be of great smoking quality, regardless of appearance. I've had a fair number of boxes of TOS 16 principes now. The wrapper shades/appearance have run the gamut. Construction and smoking pleasure have been consistently excellent. I had a box of TOS 16 montecarlos too, which were excellent. 3 1
Popular Post Chucko8 Posted January 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 25, 2019 Packed up the box for the Friday night party. 2016 Connie A's. Have yet to try the La Escepcion Don Jose, very excited by the prospect. 14
Popular Post encephalization Posted January 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 25, 2019 Upmann Natural(e)s, mid to late 70s. Fantastic. Algae like taste in the first third/half, almost like a salty herbal tea. Ramped up in strength and body in the final few inches, very pleasant throughout.Followed by a LGC Caribe. Not bad, not spectacular. Had some similarities with the Spanish RE from last year but I think I'd pick that one over todays cigar. Oh well.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk 23

Popular Post SmokinNukie Posted January 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 25, 2019 I’ve been in Frankfurt, Germany all week. It’s pretty cold so I’ve been limited to indoor smoking. LCDH store with smoking lounge in the basement that closes at 11pm. Nice place. Fair selection. Jimmy’s Bar. Open till 4am with live piano/vocals. Fantastic entertainment. Very limited selection but you can also bring your own. Happening place. I’d go back anytime I’m back i town. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 21

Popular Post Lotusguy Posted January 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 25, 2019 Smoked the ugly duckling ROTT. It exploded on me from the temperature and humidity difference (not surprisingly) and it was young, but it already tasted better than the ERDM PR Spain from a few years back which I never liked. 16

Yes @Fugu, it's true, the computer monitor and re-sizing and re-imaging in Photoshop doesn't do justice to my anecdote. Above is a better comparison. On the left is a LGR Oct 17 light-wrappered PL Montecarlo, on the right is the TOS Mar 2017 mottled, darker PL Montecarlo. Instinct would advise us that the cigar on the right is more appealing to the senses, however, the cigar on the left has been more approachable in its youth! 22 hours ago, cfc1016 said: This is precisely why I don't put so much stock into the importance of wrapper appearance. Popular Post Eric E Posted January 26, 2019 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2019 Sir Winston from the mid 2000’s (I didn’t keep the outer box). Very mild, but with some complexity. Maybe I need a younger box. ?♂️ 16
