1. Montecristo Especial (circa 2003 - thanks @jay8354!)

Gifted by my dear friend Jason, this 15 year old Montecristo Especial was all smooth and refined. There was very little cream and coffee here, but Montecristo cocoa and nut was abundant, together with a floral aftertaste from beginning to end.

2. Montecristo No.2 UTL Mar 2018

Flavour-wise, this was your standard Montecristo cocoa, milk coffee, nut and toasted tobacco fare, but the bunched leaves along one side on the binder made this require a few touch-ups to burn evenly and spoilt an otherwise fine cigar.

Partagás Selección Privada 2014 - Edición Limitada OPG Dic 2014

The Partagas Seleccion Privada Limited Edition was released in 2014, along with the Bolivar Super Corona and Cohiba Robustos Supremos. Initial reviews suggested that it was like a Partagas Serie D No.4, only richer. The consensus, at the time, was that this cigar was ripe for aging, with a 3 to 5 year window.

So how was it? Well, at 50 ring gauge x 160 mm in length, this double robusto took a good 2 hours to enjoy. The rosado wrapper, so common with this release, was superb and the barnyard aromas smelt wonderful.  It was still a strong cigar, creamy, with a coffee, leather and wood core and cocoa, toasted tobacco and hints of white pepper at times. Even after nearly 4 years, this was medium to medium-full in terms of strength and was very much true to the Partagas marca, especially when compared to a Partagas Serie D No.4.

This is the cigar that got me hooked on Cuban cigars.  I have a few boxes resting in my humidor now and only break them out for special occasions.  I am definitely a fan!
