Popular Post awkwardPause
First Talisman for me - from an early batch. Very fruity, floral, and fragrant woody flavors/essence - quite light on the palate. Very unique s’mores character, as well, with an interesting toastiness. Big white chocolate opening with each puff. Also, can’t say I’ve ever tasted lychee in anything...other than lychee fruit...but here it is. Not at all what I expected and a very pleasant surprise! The flavors are not nearly as dark as I anticipated, and despite the cost I’m actually quite intrigued. I know Ken (the other Kenny G) has been raving about these, and now I can see why. Curious how these will be in 5 or 10 years.

Popular Post George-eed
Decided to go with a JL 2 this evening. I was always sceptical reading on the forum about leaving cigars to acclimatise for at least 3 months. However, these were my first purchase from our host about 6 months ago and I have to admit, they taste so much better now. Popular Post encephalization
Had to try one of these ROTT. First half was fantastic, both sweetness and actual pepper. Full of flavors, a hint of leather in there. Secind half got a bit mongrel but I have no doubt time will take care of that.Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk

Popular Post JohnS
Some cigars I've had recently... 1. Cohiba Robustos PTR Ago 2015 The last of a nice split of 2015 Cohiba Robustos. This had some nice mocha coffee, citrus and honey flavours, with a buttery texture throughout. There was minimal grass/hay evident here, but some hints of vanilla which was welcome well into the last third. 2. Romeo y Julieta Capuletos 2016 - Edicion Limitada TOS Sep 2016 This wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. I guess my recent enjoyment of 2016/17 Romeo y Julieta Churchills has raised my expectations in regards to the marca to unrealistic, stratospheric levels! Realistically speaking, this was fine. Cocoa, wood and nuts were the core flavours, with a little spice and sweet berry fruits at times, which I would have like to had more of throughout the smoke. Maybe some more downtime will bring these latter flavours to the fore. 3. Hoyo de Monterrey Le Hoyo du Prince TOR Jun 2016 This started off as the smaller doppelgänger of an aged Le Hoyo des Dieux, all cedar and cream with subtle vanilla notes on the edges. By the middle third this gave way to more dominant cocoa and spice flavours before rounding off in the last third to a combination of all these. This is developing nicely, I look forward to resting my other du Prince further to see how they settle. Hopefully there'll be some of the flavours in the first third in the next one I smoke, possibly in six months time. 4. Juan López Selección No.2 ELO Ago 2014 (Thanks Rob!) Gifted by Rob, this near 4 year-old Juan Lopez Seleccion No.2 was the kind of cigar that makes you perform a complete 180° turn in your wish list. I make no secret of the fact that I haven't had the best time with young Juan Lopez in the last year or two, I haven't loathed them, but I haven't loved them either. This was all orange peel citrus right from the word go, with a combined light coffee and milk chocolate core and most importantly, it was medium to medium-mild in strength the whole way. Rob explained to me that the key was letting them rest and develop, and this was why I guess it connected so favourably with my palate. 5 out of 5, 10 out of 10, a 95 point cigar, however you want to rate it, it was superb! 5. Cohiba Piramides Extra 2014 (Thanks Steve!) Gifted by Steve, I am very grateful to have enjoyed perhaps my favourite Cohiba, equal perhaps to the Lanceros and Esplendidos. Beautiful mocha, Cohiba grass/hay, honey and citrus notes with a light buttery texture which suggests that they will only improve with time, as this was 4 years old. Frankly, these are just too expensive to have on a regular basis, but boy do I enjoy them when I do! 6. Montecristo No.4 AEM May 2014 Montecristo cocoa, coffee and nut and an 1 hour to savour it. If only it had more creamy texture to the aftertaste I would have been in heaven. They're 4 years old already, maybe they'll turn in another year? We'll see! 7. El Rey del Mundo Demi Tasse SGA Sep 2016 've been trying to stay right away from these as I want to sample them much older, but I guess I succumbed today. They are delightful little flavour bombs, with a lemon citrus combining with a core fruit and shortbread profile and some floral and honey notes on the edges. I guess with age I hope to get more of an almond nut flavour out of them. Thankfully I've only smoked 1 or 2 out of the box!
