Dbone Posted April 13, 2012 Posted April 13, 2012 See... same box (from 08), same cigar as in above post above... crap-o-la. Nearly a hint of cinnamon on the first half, second half tasted way off and I ditched it. Consistency Habanos, work on it.

I've had lots from 2008, and it seems like they're definitely all over the place, especially that box code. Had some GREAT 2009 and 2010 singles, hoping to get some nice PSP sticks from 2010-2011 (apparently they're the bee's knees).
Joker Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Had a SC El Principe 11 last night Blissfull 25mins of honey choc flavours Great smoke - worth giving them a try
canadianbeaver Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Smoked a PL PC... great flavors, lots of smoke and the perfect size for me. Have to get a box next time I have some $$.
Wil Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 NC experiments continue... Tonight, a Padron principe maduro. Like the other 4 padrons I've tried, all I seem to get is leather.
Puros Y Vino Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 PSP Monte 4. Gorgeous wrapper, immaculate burn. Taste was bitter throughout though. There were plenty of other undertones taste wise but bitterness was prominent. What makes a cigar bitter? Is it evidence of a sick period or could it be the way I'm storing them?.

ramon_cojones Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Smoked a pretty nice somewhat aged sig vi last night too bad couldn't nub bc it lost it the last 6th.

Robs monte 4's are the best hands down, he know exactly how to pick them. That being said, I usually taste a strong bit of tannins until they have a good long rest. I have a HQ and PSP box in the humidor and after about a year now the HQ flavors are showing themselves in spades. I haven't opened the PSP box yet. Just my experience tho.

Just finished my third for this sampling and it's "okay". It's just disappointing to have the flavors all over the place within the same box. But it comes with the territory LOL
ramon_cojones Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Smoked a pretty nice robusto T though I will not repurchase when I can get 50 rass for the same price.
MrDowse Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Party Short & ERDM Choix Supreme. Both bought and singles today and really enjoyable but very different smokes. I was really impressed with the ERDM.. it was my first one and a winner. Not the prettiest stick but the pre light aroma was great..it smelled like a chocolate cake draw was perfect and the burn was razor sharp. Toasted tobacco, hazelnuts and almonds in the first and second 3rds....finishing with leather, bitter chocolate and cedar in the last. Smoked it till my fingers burned..
Puros Y Vino Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Finally smoked it, did you? Yeah, mine seem to be in a slump right now too. How about a money back guarantee Keith? . You could've warned me about their current state.
Puros Y Vino Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Smoked my first ever VR Classicos. 1st half was creamy coffee with some hints of cinnamon. The latter half gave way to leather, bean, earthy tastes. Very good draw and burn. Not as great as the VR Unicos, but very enjoyable. The missus, while making do with a Party Chico, snapped the following pic.
brazoseagle Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 HDM Epi # 2 & 2010 PSP Monte 2! Both fantastic
CanuckSARTech Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 How about a money back guarantee Keith? . You could've warned me about their current state. Well, I'm sorry that you didn't run your cigar-smoking schedule by me. Money-back, sure - considering wasn't that one a gifted one anyways???
headstand Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Oh the glory and tragedy of Cuban cigars. Started on a PSD4 yesterday after work. Gobs of smoke and rich flavors dominated by leather, with hints of wood and spice: huge potential right of the bat. Glorious. So I tucked myself into a deck chair with rum and coke and a Clive Cussler novel for some mindless escapism. I was having a fine time - for about 15 minutes after which the cigar needed a relight. No big deal! Then another relight a few minutes later. Ok somethings up. And then everything fell apart. A gaping tunnel right down the core of the cigar and a draw that was like sucking through a straw. Game over. I could have smoked just about any NC and had a perfectly constructed cigar and avoided the tragedy, but really where is the glory in that!
Dbone Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 After a year in transit (13 months actually), and 6 months in the humidor... it's all Upmann through and through LOL One cigar out of the box cracked open while being brought back to life, rest are just fine. Don't let anyone tell you 4 or 6 weeks in transit will be the death of a cigar.
Rushman Posted April 15, 2012 Posted April 15, 2012 Just finished what turned out to be a very nice PSE2. Awfully big cigar but good. Heading to a box of 898V next. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=20.630230,-87.069800
Dbone Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 The "What was your first purchase" topic got me itching to see how the Monte 2's were doing from 2005. This was one of the first box I ever purchased. It's been aging for 6 years in my humidor. It did not disappoint, even with higher than normal expectations. Sweet chocolate on the lips, coffee and cream through the nose. And a smooth operator at that... Not the best Monte 2 I've had, but still it well above average.
headstand Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 MONTECRISTO NO.4 HQ OPA MAR 10 Sometimes you just have to let the nub do the talking...
KWG116 Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Had a run of good cigars. Two weeks ago was ready for a break as my taste was off 04 Cohiba Sublime Got this in a trade years ago and sat in my box of rare cigars. For some reason saw this and decided to smoke it. Not really my size and it looked a little beat up. It was the most chocolate I have ever tasted in a cigar. Loads and loads of chocolate. Only problem is that was all there was. No change. Had a pretty open draw so that could have part if the issue. It was a big cigar and I enjoyed it. But would not seek them out. 2010 HDM Epi 2 Awesome. I find I have to smoke these very slow to bring out the creaminess. Glad I have an extra box. Perfect construction. 2010 HDM DD Very good. But a little over humidified. Very woodsy and stronger than usual. PL Encantos These are coming along. Tasted like an aged PLPC. Enjoyed it to the nub. PL Panatela Cruising through this box probably smoked 15 in three weeks. I really love these and glad they are back.
