I think it's a combination of some brands having been created/marketed in certain areas (ie: Quai d'Orsay in France), politics (ie: my recollection is that Bolivar was not sold in Spain [and not be still - I'm not sure] because naming the Bolivar marque for ol' Simón was offensive to the Spaniards), and weird contracts (ie: rights to import Punch into Canada are held by someone other than Havana House).

I have heard that about Bolivar in Spain too. It's not true, Bolivar cigars are sold in Spain. I've never heard anybody there mention any issue with them, maybe there was in the past, I don't know.

I think it's more of a popularity thing than anything else. Por Larranaga used to be popular in Ireland and the UK until the 70s, I've seen a few old boxes.

Then they couldn't be found in this part of the world until the Magnificos came out.
