Following on from the video review Rob and I did of the Ramon Allones Clestiales Fino and how powerful the nicotine hit was it go me thinking.

What cigars have knock you about with their power like this thing did? Are there any common cigars that continually produce powerful cigars and do they change and mellow over time?

We mentioned R&J Celestiales Fino as another cigar with an angry kick, I also find that every 5th box of Partagas Connie 3s has a kick like a mule. I'm sure all you guys have a list of some cigars that have hit you for a six?

Used to be that RyJ Cazadores, when fresh especially, packed a wallop. I haven't had one in quite awhile, so I don't know if this is still the case.

Only the RyJ Cazadores are consistently abusive upon early sampling. Some really rough ones there after the late-2005/early-2006 gems. JLP Petite Cazadores have also tended to be pretty darn tough to smoke. The Partagas Shorts are always powerful little firecrackers like the Siglo I, but oh so dense and good. Other than that, there are rarely any Habanos that can knock me for a loop as readily as even middle of the road non-Cubans.

Tim,

I have several boxes from throughout 2007 and they are harsh smokes. I've resigned myself to not touching these for a long time.

07 JL #2, although not a firecracker, always seems to leave me with a little sweat on the brow...just sort of creeps up on you.

As stated on the thread I have had an RA Belicosos that almost made me sick... '05 vintage, smoked a week or so ago. I had an El Prin do the same thing in December... but that was 10 days after having a heart attack!!! -LOL The remainder of the box have been bliss, without the BUZZ! -P

Tend to stay away from CC's that are real ass kickers and full of spice. On the NC side I would say the AVO LE 08 has made me sick both times I have smoked it. Also Opus X Perfecxion No. 4 has got me bent out of shape a few times.

The AVO 80th was the same for me. So incredibly harsh in the first 6-9 months after release. Just painful to smoke. They've softened somewhat but the flavor really hasn't developed yet. I didn't think much of the LE 08. The ones I've smoked all had a bizarre, perfumey aroma and thin, tinny flavor. A far cry from the legendary LE 05 and the decent LE 07.

JL#2 for me too. Every time after smoking one, I'm immediately ready for bed (and not because the smoke is boring).

I have several cabs of these from early 2006 and they are amazingly punchy. Very surprising and quite strong. Always amazed at those who say this is a mild or even medium smoke although they were a lot more so when they were young.

And don't forget about the Bolivar CJ. Nice and strong too.

Can't blame it on one, but a combo. Last week at a mini-HERF, I started with a Siglo VI, had a couple bites to eat, then finished with a VR Unico. Felt fine at the time, but about an hour later I had to bring back the skills used in my fraternity days to fight off the nausea and impending vomitting episode previously used to fight off a shot that went down wrong. Luckily, I succeeded, and did not have to swerve off the freeway and yack all over the place.

After that, I felt pure bliss....odd

Young cohiba robusto.

Partagas 898.

Both have knocked me about a lot. An 898 once made my mate 'Iron Guts Bernie' throw up like a sprinkler. Very funny seeing his ego cop such a dent.

The chisel made me sick to my stomach. I had a Camacho that I had to sit down to smoke.

Its a complex thing, but not enough to eat or drink, tired, whatever, makes you more likely to succumb. Got to agree with BigGuns though, the one time the chills, sweats and nausea got me was after I smoked a JLP Cremas after a Party 898. I enjoyed the 898 so much I just had to have another cigar, big mistake. Big mistake... :covermouth:

There's another thread in the forum on what to do about it. Seems lots of guys have success with eating something sweet or drinking coke to beat the horrors. :D

I've never actually felt much of a nicotine kick from any cigar, even the ones that are commonly known for it. I've smoked a lot of cigars in a day as well and still had no ill effect. I've even smoked with seasoned cigar veterans that have gotten the shakes and shown no ill effect. My dad and my brother also have unworldly tolerances for nicotine. we are also this way with caffeine and the majority of prescription drugs. Its a blessing and curse...

On the NC front, in addition to those Opus Power Rangers, El Rico Habano Habano Clubs used to be searingly strong before that boom thing weakened the blend.

I have a cab of Boli Coronas Extras SUA SEP 02. Stronger than my 06 Cazadores & a wonderful earthy flavor too.

Steve your killing me with all the comments on those BCE's. I have to wait for my new avanti before I jump on those.

As for cigars with a huge nic kick, the only cigar that was uncomfortably strong for me in the past few years was a Trini Ingenios. I have to say I really didnt enjoy it. In fairness to the cigar I smoked it in the afternoon after a light meal instead of after dinner but still, that cigar was harsh and just very strong. I vowed not to touch that box until 2012.

I've been lucky enough so far to not have had my ass kicked by a Cuban cigar. Though I have to say the Party Shorts almost came close. The only cigar that I can really remember that gave me the sweats, nauseas and head spinning was an NC stick from Pepin Garcia, or rather his son, called My Father. That was a horrible experience.
