I don't think it's been confirmed yet but I think it was some kind of robusto/long robusto.

Asia-pacific release if it happens so Czar should have them

Sounds good. Thanks.

Thank you Guy. That was a great read with excellent photos. Such a great event in such a great city.

Nice aticle. I've been impressed with recent Imperiales. Seem to have a little more strength while keeping the classic flavors.

Wow, just when I think I have a good feel for what I would like to try next, I get to read something like this!

Thank you so very much for sharing your experience Guy.

Hello Guy,

What a wonderful post! Thank you very much for sharing this very interesting cigar story. I had never considered this cigar brand before, but now I feel that I must try these very soon.

Thank you and best wishes,

Question for Rob/Lisa/Smithy: Are there any stock available from the QdO brand? Or are you just getting a few odd boxes from time to time?

Havent seen anything on the czar site for maybe a year...

Great story, thanks for sharing! Makes me think about the Imperiales that were posted on LFTH the other day.

Yeah I've seen the ocassionally HQ boxes but what I meant was if there is any regular stock nowadays.

Seems like a lot of the smaller brands is sold out all the time at the czar site.

Guy,

This was a fantastic read, truly great. I nice stroll through the history of Quai D'orsay, and it has inspired me to try this marca, either via a box purchase, or a few singles.

As for the Quai D'orsay 2011 RE this is from trevors website :

Quai d'Orsay Superiores Robustos RG: 50 Legnth : 124 Region : Asia Pacific Dist : Pacific Cigar Status : Unconfirmed

This might be something that I would buy.

I don't want to rain on anyones' parade mate, but if there is one thing that will likely put a dent in the QDO brand for us loyalists, it is the release of an RE. While I am not suggesting that you don't try it, it is the antithesis of why those of us who regularly smoke them, likely smoke them. We smoke them because they are limited production cigars now, and they are a reliably good smoke! They are made when they are needed and not mass produced, regardless the resources, to answer the need to fill a custom box.

I can't comment on whether the RE cigar will be good or bad. I highly doubt, and I am just reading the tea leaves, that it will be anything QDO by the enthusiasts standard. JMHO.

True. Hoyo ELs taste nothing like regular Hoyos. Cuaba Piramides nothin like Cuaba. But for my liking, that's a good thing. :rotfl:

Why? Doesn't the PL robusto taste like a PL? Doesn't the Punch super robusto taste like a Punch? Let alone all the Regional RA, that are multiple declinations of the typical RA blend…

I would agree with your statement if we were talking about a EL Quai d'Orsay, that would likely taste like any other EL, but a Qd'O robusto, why not…

Guy,

Thanks for a very interesting story. I have not smoked a Quai D'Orsay, but I will now be doing my best to get my hands on one.

Cheers,

Deleted by me!

I thought I was posting to the QDO inquiry thread not Guys thread. My comments did not belong here. I think this thread was better off without my diatribe! It was a distraction from the authors original content which deserved better. -Piggy

This topic deserves a kick! Like the articles by Punch Joe, this topic gives some great insight and background to a brand that isn't talked about as much as it deserves.

I think as an "educated" online community it's our job to keep brands like these alive. We all have to put in our weight and carry these cigars which the average person might not pay attention to. These aren't discontinued yet and just maybe, we'll be able to make sure that doesn't happen anytime soon.

I've already ordered my box and I hope more people will do the same soon!

Little side question for Guy:

This brand is named after the street, what is Gare d'Orsay/Musee d'Orsay named after? Personally I found Musee d'Orsay FAR more interesting than the Louvre..... :daydream:

They are two completely different museums/cultural places, with different cultural and educational objectives, a comparison would be meaningless…

As for the Quai d'Orsay, it's a dock, a quay along the Seine - not a street, not a bridge, contrary to what is suggested on many online vendors websites…

I'm not comparing them... I'm just saying one was more engaging (for me) than the other. Also it was a metaphor for the cigar... Musee d'Orsay isn't as well known as The Louvre and it isn't as widely visited as the world famous museum, yet here is this relatively small unassuming museum that's not at the top of minds of most tourists and it delivers in spades and for me personally was much more interesting than The Louvre, regardless of what the objectives of either museum is.

And I figured out that quai meant warf, just wanted to know where the name d'Orsay came from. Thanks for the link Guy!

I'd call it a mild -medium too packed with flavour.

For my taste they have that salt sweet sour zing fresh that say strawberries have.

Starts off with mild pepper and grassiness.

Some nice wood toastiness.

Very refined and fragrant.

But i prefer them aged than fresh.

If you asked me to describe them i would say "fresh"..

fresh for nice weather and fresh light food.

Cool smoke.. but i dont think it suits every palate.
