Every occasion its cigar

Recommended Posts

In the same way I associate air travel with Nathan Milstein playing the violin (it's on my iPod, and it's all I listen to in flight), there are some occasions I naturally associate with specific cigars.

Sunday morning coffee = Monte #4

Post Saturday luncheon (tasty but not too heavy) = Upmann Mag 46

At a garden party with (mostly) friends but also a few people who take personal offense at anyone who dares to enjoy things like cigars = Hoyo Double Corona (in keeping with my policy of never apologizing for the moderate enjoyment of sensible pleasures)

Thursday afternoon, having a Guinness with buddies = Rocky Patel Decade Torpedo (I'm still 60% non-CC)

Just won big at the roulette wheels of Monte Carlo = Cohiba Behike (OK, this one I arrived at by deductive reasoning, having never experienced either)

I love variety, so the cigar that suits my needs, palate, time and opportunity, or simply the one I happen to have with me as I never leave home without at least 2 cigars, that way I can always have a choice while I am away from my humidor.

Arrive at work, give Lise a hug and plunge myself a mug of Merlo Coffee (Espresso blend) no millk, no sugar. Head up to the deck outside of my office, morning winter sun, fire up the laptop and sit back in the rocking chair. Put the Punch Petit Punch to my mouth.

Pack the Jeep and do a run over the gear. Tents..check, fishing gear...check, wine...check, etc etc. Sun is coming up now as my watch shows 5:15. Jump in the truck and turn over the diesal and head out the home gates for the 4 hr drive with a RASS at hand and a RAG in the truck humidor.

Everything I touch has screwed up for the past couple of days. I am irritable and looking for a dog to kick. Have blown up PCC, snapped at Smithy, had a go at Lise. My last 10 cigars have been crap ie..flavourless or plugged or flawed. I need something to pull me out of the downward spiral and set the foundation for the first step back to normality. I always reach for Partagas Connoisseur No 3.

"I drink Champagne when I'm happy and when I'm sad," said Madame Bollinger, one of the grandes dames of Champagne. "Sometimes I drink it when I'm alone. When I have company, I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I'm not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise, I never touch it - unless I'm thirsty."

Screw it, today was a great day, so I'm going to celebrate it: Cohiba Robusto

Couldn't agree more. If it was my Birthday and I had to have one smoke it would be the Cohiba Robusto. Never disapoints and always make you look forward to the next.

The only constant is Trini Reyes with morning coffee on weekends, occationally I might change it up to a PLPC. After work cigar always varies, today was my first Upmann #2, very very nice.

Not much rhyme or reason for me - I take a peek and go for what I feel like at the moment. For instance, yesterday I smoked one of my all time

faves - an '03 Bolivar Coronas Gigantes - while reading outside. Before I went in to work.

Weekend mornings I always reach for one of the following with a mug of black coffee: Trinidad Reyes, RASCC, Partagas Shorts, or a Partagas Connie #3. If you haven't tried a few Connoiseur #3's, you don't know what you're missing. :D
