SmokinLightning Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 PC... and I do print media/graphic design. I know, I know... hardcore Mac users believe you can't do graphic design on a PC, but those days are long gone. The printers I use tell me they have more and more customers using PCs every year. I never understood the issues people have with PC and windows... in the 15 years I've been using PCs I have never had a virus or had to reformat due to some software catastrophy.
messa Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 MACs are pretty, PCs are Functional I'll take function over form anyday... Just don't install Vista!!!
Guest Robson Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Switched to Mac a couple of months ago. I keep asking myself why i didn't make the change earlier.
armedak Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 Unless you are a graphic artist professional the PC is a better cost value, and has much more software available for it. The market share of PC versus Mac says it all and only reason Mac's don't have virus problems is there are so few of them the hackers don't waste their time on Mac viriuses.
Taino Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 mac here, if you argue PC are better you dont't know a thing!... therefore ignorant
jbrown1843 Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 PC's for years at work and home, but in light of all the security issues worldwide (virus, patching, attacks) I would recommend new folks to look at MAC. Also if you are going to have to buy a new OS (Vista sucks) I would buy a MAC as you might as well spend your time learning an OS that works.
habone Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I mess around on itunes and the safari browser and I love it, but the price... not so much. I will be buying MAC when I have 2 grand
Colt45 Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Just a for what it's worth - does anyone remember ms dos? Windoze is microshaft's emulation of the mac os. In my opinion, ms has never surpassed the original. Of course, there are those who prefer a Dominican Montecisto to a Cuban Montecristo - to each their own........
Ginseng Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 Mac desktop and laptop. Been a Mac/Apple user since 1990 with the Mac IIci. Still, I wouldn't describe myself as a "fanboy." I simply like the way the OS works. That said, I've also been using Windows since version 2.0/2.1 from around the same time frame and just don't care for it. Any version of it, though Windows 7 looks pretty interesting. If I could get the Mac OS on PC hardware I would. Sure, Mac hardware is elegant, but you sure do pay a premium for Apple design. Wilkey
PigFish Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I use both platforms for different reasons. My daily use computer is a Macbook and I do all my Adobe suite work on that computer. I have been a Mac user since my first FX and the advent Aldus Pagemaker. I bought an 8500 machine in 95 that still works and I would still use it if the newer OS worked in it. I only decommissioned it about 6 months ago. My how things have changed... Motorola chips, SCSI drives... etc. etc. I also use a PC for certain software applications. I typically build my own with a recycled case, new power supply when necessary, Asus MB, Intel Chips and whatever the flavor of the day is in Nvidia video cards. I never spend a lot on a PC and never buy the fastest of anything anymore. I don't game or perform desktop publishing work on them so there is no need for me to spend a lot. My last desktop lasted me many years running 24/7 on Windows 2000. I still use that machine now and again to look for work on old UDMA drives and such. Good old slot 1 processors (I am pretty sure it is a slot 1)... keep going and going... I mooched a used 100GB drive from a friend (did not want to sink any money in the old girl), scrubbed it, loaded XP and the machine still runs like a champ.
El Presidente Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I use an Asus S6 PC Laptop. I have used it for 3 years. 60 hours a week average all over the world and never let me down. I am about to upgrade now and going throgh the assessment process. I will miss it.
Ken Gargett Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yep, this is like the classic NC vs CC debate. One is more reliable and more consistent... but extremely bland and boring. The other has more problems and hiccups... but offers more in the way of variety. couldn't agree more. tried a mac once but may as well have been an anchor. hated it.
SpeedyGonzales Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Personally, I don´t understand the CC/NC comparison. To me, Macs are both more reliable and consistent AND offering more (fun, efficiency, success…) Have always been using Macs since I bought my first computer in ´92 – I have never possessed a PC ;-) Can´t understand why people tend to be masochistic and use Windows. I want my computer to work for me and not the other way ´round… Think that was a clear statement, ROFL Speedy
physiognomy Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Macbooks at home & PC at work... Nice thing about the PC is that I know I will have time for coffee at the office since it takes a full 5-10mins to boot each morning.
Sir Diggamus Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I bought my first Mac in the summer of 07 and it still runs great. No more PCs for me
asmith Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Question for Smithy what do you use for your video edits?. Mate I use a DOS Box, but not by choice, we were thinking about a Mac for the video editing and I felt they had the best software for the job but it only ran on Mac, so I would have to get a new Mac computer as well. So to keep harmony in the office I run Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum V9 on an Asus. I do actually have an original Mac from 1986 in my office at home and it still works, now thats old school!
log1k Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I never understood the issues people have with PC and windows... in the 15 years I've been using PCs I have never had a virus or had to reformat due to some software catastrophy. I concur.....
smk819 Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 PC still has a FORTRAN compiler, yes I know it makes me an antique, but FORTRAN is still the best number cruncher of them all.
Mr Peales Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I need a machine that works all of the time... like a CC. I also like an intuitive OS that reveals its elegance as you use it... like a CC. It's also nice to run software that is rich and well integrated... like a CC. Not a PC, no, no, no. Don't go near them any more.
demiurgic Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 I've had an Apple Laptop which are amazingly durable and can withstand many more layers in photoshop than the several DELL laptops I have had and busted up eventually. Those guys last 3 years, that's all they got. The apple will last forever. However, our company needs one and I think it'll be an ODM PC this time. For the price, it's quality, display, sturdiness and oomph! (what's inside) are mind blowing. http://www.sagernotebook.com/product_custo...ction=customize I'd pick an Asus or an MSI as well. Sager is more affordable and similar in quality me thinks.
IceChant Posted April 22, 2009 Posted April 22, 2009 Up to the use you need it for, I got friend with mac but I use and will keep using pc's.
samb Posted November 13, 2009 Posted November 13, 2009 *BUMP* Apple, been a fan since '06. Once you go Mac, you never go back.
Cletus Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't: clicky .
zuma Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't: clicky Whoa! That's some angry geek... did his vista do that to him? well, hopefully windows 7 will fix'im up...
