bassman Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Another vote for the Petite Punch. Strong & "Punchy". If you can find them, the Partagas TPC is even stronger than the Short. (Long discontinued, but a couple places still have them)
Van55 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 You're unlikely to match the Shorts firecracker power with any other Partagas vitola, in my opinion. Coronas, if you can find them are good as are the Petit Coronas, which I believe have also been discontinued. As others have said, if you like Partagas Shorts, you are very liketly to appreciate other Perlas and Minutos, plus the Trinidad Reyes. I'm surprised no one has yet mentioned another of my favorites: San Cristobal de la Habana El Principes.
PigFish Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I know that the author was looking at longer cigars but in order to trump Van's El Prin's if you have not had an '07 or '08 Monte 5 you are really missing out on another fine little cigar. The Monte is not quite as brash as the young ElP but it is more complex and a bit more refined. I love them all! -Piggy

SpeedyGonzales Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Though it might sound funny I´d like to add the H. Upmann Magnum 46. Why? ´Cause I always found the Party Shorts to be a bit out of the typical range – aromawise. I smoked through a box from ´05 and really enjoyed those little bastards. So much power! But from my palate they reminded me of „Short Mag46“. Interestingly this was backed up by a friend of mine… As to the „Petit Corona“-Selection from Partagas – my favourite brand by the way: I tried to somehow „test“ the Aristocrats (called „Aristocats“ by the elder lady working at the local cigar shop), Mille Fleurs, Petit Corona Especiales and Super Partagas against each other. Found the Super P. to be my favourite (TAM production from ´07 that is). Mille Fleurs are a bit on the dry/bitter side but very tasty, too. Greets, Speedy
PoohBore Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 What is the difference between the 898 Varnished and unvarnished ? I've just picked up a Ramon Allones Small Club Corona, Partagas Tres Petit Corona and a Romeo y Julieta Petit Julietas to try before the parents go off to Cuba.
PigFish Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 ... one is a dalias the other a cervantes; two different sizes, two different cigars, two different boxes.
SpeedyGonzales Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 According to Trevor´s Site the (discontinued) 898 UNvarnished had the size of a Corona Grande, slightly shorter than a Cervantes… ;-) Despite, I´ve never had the chance to try one. The current 898 Varnished are phantastic – have an open box from ´03

smk819 Posted April 3, 2009 Posted April 3, 2009 My favorite small cigars, in no particular order are: Trini Reyes RASCC Siglo I HDM Hoyo de Depute Another vote for the 898V I just got a replacement box for the box that is almost finished.
gerem Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 I just smoked my first Partagas Short....What an amazing smoke!!!! So much flavor in that little stick!!! I bought 10 Partagas Short from a box of August 06 and I don't know how long they'll stay in my humi....
stargazer14 Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 BigKev - I am going to smoke the Party Short you gave me yesterday on this beautiful Easter morning with my coffee, looking forward to it and thanks for the recommendation and the cigar! Will keep you posted on my thoughts.
CoryOllis Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Being a Party Short fan AND a fan of small Cubans, I actually have some input. First, I agree that the Party Short is a unique and tasty little bomb. (I will have to try the connie serie 3 and thanks for the rec!) But I wouldn't compare it to a PSD4 or PC of that line other than the general flavor profile. But two other small Cubans that have "tasty little bomb" potential are the Trini Reyes and the Cohiba Sig I and II. I also have to include the Juan Lopez Corona but with several years aging. If you haven't tried these I think you'll find they pack a comparable flavor wallop. But the Trini Reyes is the only other small cigar I like better than a Party Short. But there's no accounting for taste! Steve

Will keep you posted on my thoughts. Sounds good. I also smoked a couple of Shorts on Easter with my brother-in-law. I had a cabinet that I just received from Czar, but we had the first 4 of them that had terrible draws and had to be trashed. That was the first time that I had that happen with them. I hope the rest of the box is ok?
