bigkev Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I love the Shorts. They may be my favorite smoke. It is hard to believe that so much flavor and intensity exists in such a small cigar. Are they any other Partagas cigars that are larger, but taste just as good? I want to enjoy them a little longer. Thanks!
laficion Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Hope this helps, 1 Partagas Petit corona especial 2 Partagas coronas senior good luck
PigFish Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I am only speculating but what you may have discovered is the greatness of small cigars... not just Partagas cigars. Now I am not saying that Partagas cigars are not great. What I am saying is that much of what you are enjoying can be found in many cigars that are of 42 and less ring gauge. If you have not already you should open the door on the petit coronas, coronas and lonsdale sizes. You may enjoy the Serie du Connoisseur line. What I would like to see you do open up to smaller ring cigars to find your similarities, not just Partagas cigars. Just an idea!!! Enjoy. -Piggy
stargazer14 Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 You may also want to try the Punch Petite Punch...before they are gone. Not larger but one with great flavor in a small cigar. And the Partagas D4 I had yetersday is telling me you might want to try that, if you havent. Nice flavor, one of my favorite go-to smokes
kilroy Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Bigkev, I'm glad to see you love the Party shorts. I think you'll find that every single Partagas cigar is full of life, strength and flavor... much like myself right now on half a bottle of pinot! You can't go wrong with the 8-9-8 varnished.

laficion Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Not larger but one with great flavor in a small cigar. Partagas is Partagas but for a small cigar, stargazer is right on It, Punch Petit Punch, Great smoke.

bigkev Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Thank you, I will have to try the Punch Petite Punch. I have smoked other coronas and petite coronas, but have yet to smoke one as nice as the Short. I will get so more 898's. I have smoked them before, but don't remember them being as good. I recently got another cab of the Shorts from Czar and they are even better then last years, despite having little age. Stargazer, anything biting yet on the Chesapeake?
El Presidente Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Enjoying the hell out of HDM Petit Robusto....never thought I would.
mkz Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Have smoked a handful of Party shorts over the last year and it has actually never satisfied me. In terms of taste for me it is like an dull version of the Partagas Aristocrats... I have really tried to like the Shorts. The vitola is perfect and the construction also. But somehow the taste just doesnt fit me... Go! Go! Go Aristocrats!!!
bigkev Posted March 31, 2009 Author Posted March 31, 2009 Enjoying the hell out of HDM Petit Robusto....never thought I would. They are quite nice. I got a box last year by mistake and ended up really liking them.
mbrody Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 +1 Ken +1 Justin and Kilroy For other marcas, waiting for the Punch Petits to assess, and silly over Siglo I But I have to say that the Short I am smoking now is pretty damn good. Smelled like foul barnyard right out of the cabinet and opens with some kahoonas.

Enjoy. -Piggy I totally agree with this. I fell in love with Partagas Shorts and thought they were some anomaly (so much flavor) until I had Bolivar PC's, Trini Reyes, Cohiba Siglo II's, etc. which are all phenominal smokes. The only smaller CCs that have not impressed me have been the smaller RyJs (aside from the Short Churchill which is nice).
shrink Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 From my experience, you just can't go wrong with any of the recent ('06 through '08) Partagas. In terms of flavor profile, of course this can vary over time, but if pressed I'd describe it as a "mini" PSD4. Same bold, spicy profile when they're "on". If you're looking for a smaller smoke, I've been very pleased with the recent Petite Coronas Especiale. Not as strong as the Short, but very tasty and all Partagas. You won't go wrong with any recent Party 898V. The last boxes I got were from early 2006, and I'd describe them as exceptional. But I've read lots of knowledgeable reviews of the '08s and they are reportedly excellent. A recent tasting in Havana, by a "blue ribbon" group of experts rated the 2008 as superior to the 1998 898V across the board. That is a surprising result, but I believe it. Recent Partagas have been quite "approachable" young. I don't think we've seen a higher quality of "smokeable" cigars out of Cuba in many years.
El Presidente Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Nice post Shrink and I agree with you. The only deficiency in 08 was a lack of wrapper toward the end of the year. There are some ordinary looking wrappers floating around albeit the cigars themselveves smoke very well. What excites me about 09/10 is the bumper wrapper crop. They already have properly aged Ligero and Seco. Should make for a delicious combination.
Smooth Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Would agree with everyone and ad to the list the RA Small Club... Just as good if not better than Party Short but with a greater depth of complexity IMO. As you like the party shorts you wont really go wrong trying any Partagas... Experiment away!

maalouly Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Enjoying the hell out of HDM Petit Robusto....never thought I would. couldn't agree with you more
jeromeroselli Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Last week I had 2 Petit Edmundo's. I found myself going gaga over them. Complexity and flavor all wrapped up into a solid 50 minute to an hour cigar. Glad I bought a box recently. If we're talking small cigars, try the partagas petit corona as others have said. The PSD4 is just a fantastic cigar and I'd recommend that as well. If you're finding yourself into small cigars, like many including myself, you've GOT to try the Punch Petit Punch. A wonderful cigar. Get them while they last! Petit Corona is always a good step in the right direction from a half corona. I had an identical question recently on making the jump and took that same advice.
PigFish Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Enjoying the hell out of HDM Petit Robusto....never thought I would. Rob you know how much I enjoy bashing large ring gauge cigars but I voted these the best cigar for 200X... whenever the Hoyo Petit Robusto was introduced. I really enjoy these and despite my disposition for cigars of that ring I can't dispute a wonderful cigar when I smoke one. I have some from '06 cardboard packs that are wonderfully made and taste like a little bit of heaven! I love these.

I love these. I got some HDM #2's two years ago and was not impressed with them. I recently tried some more and still not much flavor. What a difference between them and the HDM Petite Robustos; night and day. Why such a difference in what appears to be a very similar cigar except for length?
stargazer14 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 "Stargazer, anything biting yet on the Chesapeake?" Bigkev -the big rockfish are working their way up the bay now from the sea to spawn in the upper bay, meanwhile I'm scraping and sanding and painting the boat while smoking Monte perlas to get it out by next month and catch a few - all released. Send me a PM and we can get together for a smoke and I will give you a Petite Punch to try. After you get your box, I'll take you out fishing...
