jeromeroselli Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 This is a NC Montecristo. This was tubed, purchased from a shop in New York. I noticed that it had a tiny hole immediately after putting it in my desktop humidor. The other cigars don't seem affected. No remnants of anything alive. What do you think? Beetle, or poor construction?
terrantheman Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 That's not a beetle hole, I think you have a dry cigar that was put back in the tube and totally f'd on the way in!
Taino Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 doesn't look like beetle hole. Looks like a badly storaged cigar
Ginseng Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 It does not look like a beetle hole. Beetle holes are typically circular and the same diameter from the wrapper down into the cigar. Tap the foot of the cigar against a sheet of white paper. If no fine, dark brown grains drop out, then it's not a beetle problem. Wilkey
DocRKS Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Good news/bad news... Not beetle hole but still an ugly foot....
jeromeroselli Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Thanks for the input. I'm glad, but at the same time I want my damn money back! Haha. I dissected this piece of junk to find a core of mulch, with no sign of life anywhere. An absolutely putrid cigar. I don't know if this was a fake NC, or what, but I wouldn't let me worst enemy smoke this cigar. It reminded me of a White Owl. It's funny how in such a short period of time I've become so particular about what I will/will not smoke. Can we also open up a new conversation in regards to how Habanos S.A. is doing on their freezing front? I've read a lot of posts from 06-07 about the freezing process being flawed. Can anyone chime in on how 2009 is doing?
jeromeroselli Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Damnit! Was that from your storage, or was that upon delivery?
mkz Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 It crawls over my body!!! Take it away!!! Scary critter! Hopefully I never get to see one up close and personal...
cadillacdoc Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 good read about the dreaded beetle: http://entomology.ifas.ufl.edu/creatures/u...ette_beetle.htm
ghost Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 Beetles aren't fun. I got one bad stick at a local store with them and I had put about 50 cigars in the freezer for almost a week and clean the hell out of the humidor. Was not a fun time.
