soltino Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I've only tried the Bolivar Junior Corona and Gold Medal and I have to say that I love both of them. I want to try something new from this marque though, and take advantage of the latest sale to do so So I'm trying to decide between the Belicosos Finos and Inmensas... I do like torpedos, but the longer slightly thinner smokes also appeal to my tastes... so I'm having a little trouble deciding... I also seem to recall that the Inmensas could be on the chopping block, so it might be a wise decision to try them before they get offed... ? I would appreciate any suggestions/opinions other members can offer!!
Mr. Japan Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I prefer the immensas, a more rich and full smoke. IMHO
anacostiakat Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I prefer the immensas, a more rich and full smoke. IMHO Me too.
laficion Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Bolivar, Inmensas are a great all time smoke. Grab them while you can. STOCK UP
Colt45 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Of the two, I'm another vote for the Inmensas. Going off the board, the Bolivar Coronas Gigantes is in my opinion the top of the Bolivar line. I also consider it one of the top two churchills produced under the Habanos umbrella.
Tampa1257 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I would agree with all the others, the Inmensas is a richer fuller flavored Bolivar in my opinion.
jwm8592 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 While I have never smoked he BBF, so no comparables here I would have to agree w/the above comments and would choose the Inmensas. IMHO a very rich/sweet smoke, w/coffee & slight cocoa flavors. The draw was excellent for such a long slender stick, as was the burn. And to make your choosing slightly easier I have included some photos of my remaining Inmensas, albeit they are from MAR 01. Good luck,
ghost Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I think I am going to have to buy a box of those Inmensas when I get my next humidor.
Van55 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Inmensas for sure. BBF's haven't been very good for most of this decade, for my taste.
shrink Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I've been surprised by how many people prefer the Inmensa, given the popularity of the BBF over the years. So let me add another vote for the Inmensa. My first box was from '01, and I loved 'em. Since then, I have found it to be a wonderful smoke, with more "traditional" Boli flavor profile. Typically not as strong as the BBF, but I love the way the dalia reveals and develops the Boli flavors. If you need another reason to buy the Inmensa, consider the fact that it's being d/c this year. A couple of boxes in the humidor will age beautifully, and you'll be glad you got 'em.
Guest rob Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 consider the fact that it's being d/c this year. What do you mean by this Shrink?
asmith Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Hang on boys, I am doing up our latest video review and its on the BBF, had I read this thread yesterday I would have also reviewed the Immensas but alas its on the BBF. Just a quick heads up it came through pretty good.
perfectform Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I was surprised reading each response and then thinking about which one I would buy, if not both. The ratio of BBF to Inmensas I've had is probably about 10 to 1, but I would choose the Inmensas at this point.
soltino Posted February 18, 2009 Author Posted February 18, 2009 Gentleman, thank you all for your valued opinions You've just made my choice a lot easier as the Inmensas is the clear favourite! Especially big thank you to jwm8592 for posting the pictures of the box from '01... those sticks look sensational, how could I not buy a box after seeing that?!? I am doing up our latest video review and its on the BBF, had I read this thread yesterday I would have also reviewed the Immensas but alas its on the BBF. Just a quick heads up it came through pretty good. I'll be looking forward to the review anyway Smithy
Jimmy2 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The BBF have been very good if not excellant since late 2007 they are not like they were years back ( flat and no zoom in power dpt.) they have returned my friends.
BobbyRitz Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 What do you mean by this Shrink? The Inmensas is on the cut list to be discontinued. Say it ain't so!
Ginseng Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 The BBF have been very good if not excellant since late 2007 they are not like they were years back ( flat and no zoom in power dpt.) they have returned my friends. I agree. There were a number of years where they just plain didn't excite. 2007 brought back some of that magic. Still, looks like it would be prudent to stock away a few boxes of the Inmensas. Wilkey
olotti Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Hang on boys, I am doing up our latest video review and its on the BBF, had I read this thread yesterday I would have also reviewed the Immensas but alas its on the BBF. Just a quick heads up it came through pretty good. Good deal can't wait to see this one. What year was the one you reviewed? Any real differences between the 07's and 08's?
Professor Twain Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I will add my vote for the Inmensa. I have a box of PAR MAR 02 which have been tremendous, a powerful, in your face Bolivar that is full bodied and a kick a** cigar. The BBFs I have had are a bit milder, smoother, creamier, a fine cigar but the ones I have had don't have the punch of the Inmensa.
Jimmy2 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 What year are your BBF PT ? The BBF 07/08 have been med to full i would say the strongest in the presnt day Bolivar line up..
matthew261 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Both are great cigars and represent some of the best available. I agree with most of what others have said about them, so I'll add something new. Since you seem to appreciate smaller ring cigars, I would encourage you to consider the Coronas Extra. I've found it to be an awesome smoke; smooth draw all the way through (an important factor for the smaller sticks), a dizzying array of robust flavors, and not at all the "take your head off" cigar that some have characterized it as.
Jimmy2 Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Coronas Extra have been excellant 07/08 they have that Bolivar rich earthy flavor with great balance. This is another cigar on the chopping block but i hope they change their mind as these are one of my Favorite stick.
soltino Posted February 19, 2009 Author Posted February 19, 2009 Thank you for the suggestion of the Coronas Extra - I will add it to my wishlist Certainly does seem like a lot of great cigars are up for the axe.... Let's hope they reconsider!
Bolismoker Posted February 22, 2009 Posted February 22, 2009 Jumping on the CE bandwagon. My favorite smoke of all time!!!! I smoke probably 3:1 Boli CE to anything else. That being said I smoked a '96 BBF a few weeks ago that was nearly impossible to describe. I was at a formal dinner, and after dinner many of the men retired to the patio to smoke and I found it impossible to participate in the conversation, as the BBF really captured all my attention. The Imensia is a great smoke too, and if you can find any Boli Lonsdales, they are fantastic as well, a little milder than the Imensia but no less flavorful
