qman22 Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 This is my 1st review attempt, so go easy on me! A buddy of mine was kind enough to gift me a couple of Romeo y Julieta No. 2 Tubos for Christmas. So, I figured last night was a good time to fire one up and enjoy the calm between Christmas and New Years. Since this was a gifted single I don't know the exact box code, but I think it is safe to say that it is a mid-late 2007 cigar. Prelight: This cigar's prelight aroma wasn't real pronounced, but was a little cedary, which is probably from being stored in the tube. It wasn't a real attractive looking stick because the wrapper looked to be applied too loosely, which caused some wrinkles in the wrappers and a loose spot just beneath the label. But looks aren't everything and I headed out to the garage to enjoy this cigar with my smoking buddy..... 1st half: Mild......I am tasting some hints of cedar and a little caramel, but also some unpleasant grassiness, which is a bit overpowering. This cigar is tasting pretty young right now. On the bright side this cigar is burning very well with a near perfect draw despite the ugly wrapper. 2nd half: Ok, this cigar is getting pretty boring at the halfway point. This grassy harshness is overpowering other flavors and it's getting anoying. It kicked into 2nd gear toward the end, which improved this cigars flavor. May improve with age or I might have gotten a bad one, but I don't plan on smoking another soon. Verdict: 85/100
mkz Posted December 30, 2008 Posted December 30, 2008 Good review!! Mild is my verdict on this RyJ...
Habanos2000 Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 I've never had one and based on your review it doesn't look like something for me to chase down. I'm not a fan of AT cigars, at least if they're always stored that way. They are great for transportation purposes but that's about it, at least as far as I'm concerned.
