samb Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Oh don't get me wrong, Rob, I think it's a *great* service and I wish the politics in my country weren't so freakin' stupid, or else I'd definitely take advantage of it. TBH, I'm not entirely convinced we'll see the stupidity lifted in my lifetime (yeah, I am a pessimist or just gettin' on up in the years? ).-- Gary F.
kyee Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Is is exactly BECAUSE of the embargo that the online humidor service makes perfect sense for those affected by it.
gfoster Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Can you explain your reasoning behind that statement? Seems like exactly the opposite to me. -- Gary F.
kyee Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Buy all the boxes you can afford. Use the Online Humidor and have the Czar keep them safe and in perfect storage conditions. When the embargo ends, and it eventually will, you'll have vintage/aged cigars probably at least 5 years old for you to enjoy. You can have them shipped to you at that time with no fear of confiscation. This of course assumes you are trying to build your own aged inventory for later smoking.
BobLobLaw Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I intend to use this service more and more. I think it is fantastic. In fact, I am selling some intact boxes just to buy identical replacements from Rob and put them in the OHS. Couple of other thoughts: 1) Yes risk of loss is a concern, but from my past experiences with Czar I am confident that I will be taken care of in the best manner possible. You trust the man to hand pick, inspect, and store your cigars for years in a business where he made customer service the priority. I will take that small step to trust we will work something out should a shipment get lost. 2) Isn't there a risk of loss inherent in storing in your home? These cigars are kept in a warehouse facility designed for cigars and are FULLY INSURED. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am pretty sure you cannot insure cuban cigars at home. So in the event of a home catastrophe you are SOL. Just because they are in your house does not make them safer. 3) Keeps my hands off the cigars and my collection more "modest" in the eyes of the lady friend. She knows of the OHS, but out of sight out of mind and a computer screen full of "boxes" does not have the same impact as a gigantic cooler in her closet. I did have one concern that is not addressed in the FAQ Rob. Something you hate to think about, but what happens in the event that someone using the OHS has a personal catastrophe i.e. dies or becomes incapacitated? I mean if I were to drop dead tomorrow how on earth would anyone at Czar ever find out?

This also assumes the embargo is going to end in a reasonable amount of time. That's no longer an assumption I necessarily agree with. Don't get me wrong, I think the OHS is an awesome idea and I'd love to use it. I'm just not confident in my government and my politicians being reasonable. -- Gary F.

I'd like to think that it must of course end, but the damn thing had been in place 15 years longer that I've been alive! As long as US politicians find it convenient to be "tough" on Castro (or his successor) in order to court votes in Florida, the embargo will remain.
habanohal Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 I dont use and probably wont. I am an impuls buyer of everything. When I want something, I get it right there and then so it sucks waitin fir shippin also. But the again I have 2 cabinets that I can hold over 200 boxes of cigars. I also like to rearrange them and just sit in from of glass stareing and smileing. Alas,it would suck if I had some boxes in their and I wanted too smoke them now but couldnt. For now, I just reach in and pick out what I want,( and still say I have nothing too smoke) with all the boxes I have lol
daboose Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 This OHS is brilliant! I don't want to abuse the service and want to make sure I understand things correctly. What exactly does this mean? “There is a six month minimum period for storage of any particular box.” For example, if my 1st three boxes were placed in the locker January 2010 and then another three in May 2010, could I ship anyone of those six boxes after six months counting from January 2010? (Of course this with regards to the 3 box requirement.) Thanks.

Di or Lise only visit the OHS weekly and so add-ons or withdrawals work to that time schedule. After the first six months we are pretty flexible. If you are pushing it we will let you know !LOL!

If all goes well, I will retire in just over 6 years. I want something special waiting for me to celebrate the occasion. And I think six years of age will do exactly that ... I now need to do decide what I want waiting for me. I have a lot of sampling to do!
thechenman Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Judging from the survey, I continue to think that this great service provided by Czar is way underutilized.
ChanceSchmerr Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 I don't know about that....I know I will have to change my reply to this, as I'm up to 6 boxes in the online Locker now. Somebody stop me!
bombaybill Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 The online locker is the reason i keep buying from the czar. It is also the main factor that has contributed to my evergrowing sickness. Based on the numbers of this poll, I am too embarrsed to declare the number of boxes I have in the humidor. Suffice to say, my only recourse and salvation is to age the boxes until the embargo is lifted OR i relocate to Australia!
StumpyJoe Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Chance, I know exactly what you're talking about. Didn't know about this service until this thread was started...I now have 14 boxes since about January! I need to slow down a bit myself.
LeafLover Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I totally get the online humidor. If I wasn't such a possessive bastard and didn't love sitting in front of my fridge for hours staring at the glorious boxes of cuban cigars, maybe I would use it.
partagasd4 Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I wish I could use it. Just don't have the money.
CanuckSARTech Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Getting out of hand up to 83 boxes now That's gonna be one hell of a shipment for Lisa to process!
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 I'm just not confident in my government and my politicians being reasonable.-- Gary F. Since when were governments and politicians ever reasonable?! The media are describing the result of the Australian elections as a "hung parliament". If only its members were! One can only hope...
Leopolis Semper Fidelis Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 1. When I eventually request that they be shipped, will there be a shipping charge or is the free shipping carried over from the original order?2. If/when something happens to me (face it - nobody gets out alive,) who gets the cigars? Is there some way we can stipulate this? 3. Got any pics of the storage area? I'd be interested in the answers too.
LeafLover Posted August 22, 2010 Posted August 22, 2010 Getting out of hand up to 83 boxes now WTF? That's crazy!! (Please excuse, I'm just jealous)
