Colt45 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Thanks for the review and great pics - good luck and and be safe on your excursion.
harryleech Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Great cigar, great size, great review! I'm always curious to see people's tasting notes on this cigar: I get white pepper, cream, cinnamon, spice, black pepper... Must try one of these again soon! By the way, I must compliment you on your climbing: I climbed a hill in Conemara national park in the West of Ireland at the weekend and I'm still suffering! I'm going to have to start exercising a bit more...
sandholm Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 » » Beautiful review and photo, what is the name of the peak you are climbing? » Outstanding! Thanks for all the comments, The peak is called, Dent du Géant, "The Giant tooth" more info here http://www.summitpost.org/mountain/rock/15...t-du-g-ant.html its a really nice climb, hard and difficult but the view is just amazing cheers
SmokinAl Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 G'day Sandholm, Thanks you for the excellent review. I'm very envious of your forthcoming climb. I had the opportunity to do some alpine climbs as a young man and there's nothing like it. Maybe one day I'll get to Mont Blanc. Maybe I'll be be a little less fat, a little fitter and a little younger too! See if you can take a few pics when you get up there, I'd love to see them. Cheers, Al.

sandholm Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 This is a format that I have been missing for quite a long time, a full flavor cigar when you want something more then a cigarillo but dont have time for a Robusto. Construction: Good, fells nice, not any hard spots or soft one. I did break the wrapper a bit on the foot when I took it out from the humidor. A really nice light brown wrapper. There are some white spots on the wrapper but they are probably due to water drops on the tobacco leaf when it was on the plant. Smell: Typical hoya, milk chocolate, some sweet tones, plums and a bit of black tee. Draw: I would say close to perfect Flavor: Some spice, otherwise sweet tobacco. First third During toasting and initial draws it give sweet smoke with a white pepper tones, its rather light but not a push over. I would say in the medium range. The cigar dont give that much smoke but dont have any burn issues, and dont go out. After some draws the cigar start to give more leather and earth tones. this is just a perfect cigar for a short smoke, i made an ice cold vodka martin and kicked back Second third Cigar is smooth and I turned into a perfect reading cigar. Its there but you dont have to give it any attention, when you need a puff it deliver but it never goes out. The cigar is in the medium range, a mix of sweet creamy smoke with a hint of white pepper, leather and earth. Last third It has become a bit more stronger, still a medium body, but never goes harsh. It has gone a bit more sweet/creamy, more chocolate has turned up, no coffee or nuttiness. The pepper tones has faded away, a perfect finishing To sum up: This cigar is like a good friend, always there but dont shout out for attention. Hoya has also manage to get the taste profile just right, for me I dont want a strong short cigar, but this is perfect after a hectic day and just want to kick back for a short while. This cigar is made for sitting on a balcony in the shade with a glass of chilled rose wine and just watch the world. Rate: 91, and with age it will improve and become more smooth and balanced. For the box code, i dont really know, I got a couple of boxes of these once and I dont remember from which I took it.... This is probably my last Hoyo review for now, If the weather improve I will be of climbing in the alps for a couple of weeks, in the picture below you can see the first peak we are aiming for. We tried it for a couple of weeks ago but had to aborted due to avalanches (we pulled two major ones) but I will be back with more Hoyo after the climb see you all my friends
