Colt45 Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 This is a bit of a re-hash of a topic that's been discussed here before, but it's something I've recently thought about. Let's say you're starting a new cigar company. What sizes would you first produce - not every size you'd eventually want in the line, but your initial "must haves". Mine would be: Carlotas Marevas Corona Gordas Dalias Julieta No.2 Strong consideration given to / first new additions to the line: Minutos Parejos
zuma Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Colt mate... excellent size selection. Personally, I would only substitute the Parejos for Piramides. Otherwise, tis all spiffy.
winelover Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Here's mine marevas robustos primades churchills dalias I'd definately include a churchill or DC as these are my favourite cigars for a long smoke.
FireDigger Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 I'd want to stick to the traditional 1-5 like the Montecristo or Diplomaticos, but would also like to add the corona gorda, robusto, and Julieta No. 2 sizes.
kilroy Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 petite coronas robustos piramides lancero churchill Its a pretty simple list but it covers all smoking situations.
broozer Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 corona dalia robusto corona gorda lancero and MAYBE a DC. of course i would have a second band on the DC, blend 4 YO aged filler in it, present them in a very nice shiny lacquered humidor and charge OUT THE ASS FOR THEM. :-D (even though they didn't cost much more then the robustos to make) bruce

Is this is for the US market or if this is with cuban tobacco for the non us market? I think that you have to have a few large RG cigars in there for mass market appeal. 1. Robusto 2. dalia 3. Petit Belicoso 4. corona gorda (50 or 52 RG) 5. lancero
Taino Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Strictly concentrating in: a) starting a company must have I would go: Robusto Petit Corona Piramide or Campana Distinguido Perla or minuto

"trendy" **** isn't what keeps real cigar smokers coming back for more. i would prefer to make cigars that real smokers would come back buy to time and time again. bruce
anacostiakat Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 In no particular order: Churchills and DCs Dahlias Robustos Corona Gorda/Grande Mareva Delacados There are others but those are at the top of my list.
havanaclub7 Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 I'm pretty much a Churchill and DC fan. Although I also have a few Lonsdales and a couple of pyramides as well.

eriksson20 Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Corona Gorda Lancero Robusto Piramides Petite Corona cheers,
Mel Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Double "D" up top and petite below. Are there any other sizes to really consider???:-D Colt did you expecta any other from me?
Tampa1257 Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 Bruce, What is interesting to me is that more and more of the Non-Cuban Manufacturers are now produceing thin ring gauge cigars such as the Lancero. It appears to me the Altadis is the tail wagging the dog when it comes to popular size cigars. For a time the trend was large Fattie Cigars, now the trend is coming full circle and it is trendy to smoke a Lancero again. Maybe Habanos will follow the trend again for us real cigar smokers. Tampa

They seem to have more flavor, probably because the percentage of wrapper leaf is greater than a fatter cigar. They also burn with less problems. When LFD came out with the lancero, then Oliva V, the cigars were generally much better than the rest of the line. But I do prefer the feel of a fatter cigar.
Colt45 Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 » Colt did you expecta any other from me? No Mel, but I must admit I did have you pegged as a lover of balance and symmetry :-D
