i've heard of some sort of salmonoid fish that grows that big and more in the lakes in mongolia that is apparently brilliant to catch, on fly as well as baits/lures etc. wonder how closely related?

taimen. that is what i was thinking of. checked out some photos and they are much more like giant trout. really monster trout.

I've been there! You DO NOT want to know the stories about what the Bathists fed those fish to get so huge! There are parts of that lake where the beasts will congregate right alongside the villas. dblones can tell you about it as well.
