I don't know where they come with hammer but I guessed red knife, but I'm right in the middle of cleaning 35 King and Red salmon so it makes some sense. :-P :-P

Bizarrely enough... I thought of a blue hammer too.

Maybe it's a cigar thing?

Maybe we're all a little kookey?

I must be honest, I guess that I am part of the 98% because I did think of a red hammer. And I was telling myself, that this answer is so off the chart, that I'll be out by the kiddy pool for the insane group!

This is fun!

Someone did an analysis of this question a while back.

The upshot was that, across the board, most people came up with "red" and "hammer". It wasn't 98%, but it was over 80% (I'll see if i can find the reference - it was kind of interesting. I think that the 98% figure was the total of respondents who came up with red OR hammer, not necessarily both).

So... Why?

It seems that red and yellow were popular answers because they are the "warm" colors that show up brightly against greens and blues in the background environment.

Why a hammer? Just because it's the first tool that most of us ever picked up, and it's still the most fundamental tool in our arsenal.

It would be interesting to see if location has any bearing on one's answers (for instance, if you live near the ocean, are you more likely to come up with "blue"?)
