ArloGut Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Name - Bolivar CJ Box Code - POS ENE07 Purchased - Oct. 07 First let me say that this is the first review that I have taken part in so be easy on your cretiques. I have smoke 8 out of the box "Disclamier" (I did not let them sit to long) and was not impressed with them, so this review is after they have been resting now for about 7 months. I had a small glass (16 oz.) of Dalmore on the rocks for the review to help me. The smell at cold reminded me of a nice hot cup of black coffee on those cold winter nights. The boxed press balance was nice in the hand. This wrapper was darker and had a nice oily finish than the others from the box. Wrapper was smooth and cigar was well constructed. Clipped the end and the draw was perfect with a nice Cuban tobacco flavor. Toasted the foot and was immeditly hit with pungent white smoke. Hang on Arlo this little girl may have just reached maturity. The first few puffs reveiled a really nice coffee bean and earthy taste. First 1/3 very familiar earthy taste that you would expect from a fine Habano. Again the draw on this beauty was perfect and the smoke rolled off the end like a fog bank in the mountains. Starting to taste tones of leather as she begins to settle down and get busy, but the coffee bean flavor is strong and complex. Second 1/3 the earth & coffe tones are setteling in, this cigar changes every five minutes to coffee then earthy and starting to also taste a hint of leather and the ash burns nicely. Man I picked a nice example for this review, I just hope the rest of them are as good. It is amazing how the first 8 were dogs and now this baby has completly changed. Final 1/3 the earthy taste has given way to a stronger taste of coffee & leather as we get near the end of our wonderful journey. The burn began to get a little uneven so a few touch-ups were required to get her back on track. Overall I would have to say that this was the best out of the box and such a great cigar for the price and size. If you want to get a real blast of tobacco and you need it fast I would definately recommend this little minuto. Overall Wrapper - Medium tan with small vains, very nicely constructed 5/5 Construction - Very nice firm feeling with no soft spots evident, cap was perfect along with perfect draw. Nice light gray ash, only needed a few small touch-ups 5/5 Flavor - Intense Earthy/Coffee bean taste, lots of flavor due to generous amounts of smoke filling the palate. I found this to be very complex and the flavors changed throughout the entire smoke. I did enjoy the leather taste near the end of the review. 8/10 Final Thoughts - Excellent cigar, this is a must have in the humidor. My Final Score - 18/20 Here are some not very good pictures of the review.
El Presidente Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Nothing wrong with that Arlo.....nothing wrong at all
jdbrown Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 I love em. Tasted one the other night that put me in Bolivar Heaven
perfectform Posted July 3, 2008 Posted July 3, 2008 Very nice review thanks! I had a box of these TEB Jul 07 and I must say more than a few were simply plugged, spoiling each smoking experience :-( The ones that were smokable were very enjoyable, from a nice lunch break smoke or for rides in the car, again, thanks for the review! Cheers!
smokum Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 » Great review Arlo. I have smoked them too soon many many times and have been very disappointed as well. I still do it occasionally but now I make a great effort to let the bastards rest. Friggin cigars rest more than I do now.
shrink Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Nice effort, Arlo. Woody would be proud of you. I'm still nursing a box of SEP04's that tastes just like cherry cola. C-o-l-a cola. L-o-l-a lola lo-lo-lo-lo lola.
