Interestingly, read in Spanish, the individual letters read just like the vitola de galera: Ca-De-Te...

A Ca-De-Te is an aspirant to be an official in the navy or army, maybe de name of the vitola comes from some army/navy related story...

Zuma had it right

From Jose

KDT means Ca-de-tes as the letters resembles the name in Spanish. (K is KA as it sounds the same as Ca, D is DE and T is TE) Just a simplified way to tell the name.

I recently got a box of May '07 Cadetes, and agree completely with El Pres' assessment. They serve their purpose perfectly well - just a quick simple smoke. Mine definately need some age though. I'll try to bury them for a year and sample again then. IMHO, they're definately not one to overlook at their low price point.

Fonseca KDT Cadetes TDV Sept 03

36 x 115 (4.5") Short Panetela

First cigar of the day to accompany my fresh brewed long black. I have pumped myself up for this cigar “How bad could it be Rob?” Truth be told it has been a long while since I have reached for one and my memory banks can’t recall an outstanding moment.

Selected one which felt good to the hand. Well rolled well bunched. Removed the tissue paper exterior which revealed a nice smooth Colorado wrapper which felt slick to the touch. Aroma at cold is so faint it is not discernable.

Serrated the cap and took a draw at cold. Great draw and slightly creamy taste on the lips.

Fired up the foot and the little Panetela took easily and quickly to flame. Very, very smooth opening in a light body profile. Actually more light medium. Flavour is very clear core of tobacco and cream. There is no overt aggressiveness to this cigar…no pepper, no savoury spice. There is an essence of quiet quality.

The cigar burns sharp and the ash is tight. Good level of smoke which has a woody aroma. Yet on the palate it is good tobacco and cream. Body of the cigar is still just below medium. The creamy elements compliment the long black coffee I am drinking perfectly.

This is not an overly complex cigar by any means. It knows exactly what it is intended to be and carries out that task almost flawlessly. This is a morning cigar, sitting in the spring or autumn sun, to be enjoyed with coffee and a newspaper.

Building to true medium in the last third. A little shortbread shining through…really just an evolution of the cream and tobacco which has remained constant to this time.

I enjoyed this cigar more than I thought I would. It has quality and a personality which is refined rather than extravagant. The example I am smoking is nearing 5 years of box age and I can not imagine it getting any better given its blend.

87/100 and an enjoyable morning cigar. I don’t think it will get any better with further age.
