havanaclub7 Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 » To my friends in Iowa, » » I know you are all going crazy right now my prays are with you guys. I'm not from Iowa, but my dad's cousins live in Parkersburg, IA that had the F5 tornado level the town on Memorial Day. Luckily all my relatives made it through without getting injured. There have been really bad storms throughout the Midwest and it's sad whenever there's loss of life. These Boy Scouts were very brave and are in our thoughts and prayers.
El Presidente Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 That breaks your heart. Thoughts are with the families involved.
MoeCizlak Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 » thanks to all for the kind thoughts. » » we are getting seriously smacked with deadly tornadoes last week and the » worst flooding in over 100 years going on right now. after the floods of » 1993 the army corp of engineers, and local communities, put in huge » amounts of preventative efforts in preparation for the next time. we just » didn't think it would be a short 15 years before the efforts would be » needed. there's enough trajedy to go around for sure, but somehow the » spirit here seems to be solid and stong. » » the stories of the scouts is gutwrenching, but a local interview seemed to » tell it all..... » » obviously this is paraphrased, but a newscaster asked one of the surviving » scouts if he was scared and how long he was frozen with fear after the » tornadoe literally ripped apart the stone building the boys were in. this » fourteen year old kid was streaming tears as he said..."I was scared, but » after about five seconds i just started pulling things off my friends. i » looked around and others were giving cpr to those that needed it. we » helped each other and were proud to do it." » » i wouldn't pretend to speak for every iowan.....but i'll say that everyone » that i've talked to this week is looking out for their own » families.......and others as well. we'll make it. » » best regards to all. » » john I live in Des Moines which is experiencing some flooding but not as bad as our neighbors to the east of us. I've spent several nights sandbagging to save a friends house and we were successful. Others were not as fortunate and my heart goes out to them. I was in Omaha, about 40 miles south of the Boy Scout camp, the night those poor boys were killed. As a parent, I cannot imagine showing up and waiting for news on whether my child was alive or dead. Many prayers sent to those families. It's been a strange couple of weeks here in Iowa to say the least, but it could always be worse.
First Lady Posted June 16, 2008 Posted June 16, 2008 I hope all our members and their families are safe.... this flooding is amazing and that so many have lost everything... My thoughts and the rest of the crew are with you all Lisa
