Ken Gargett Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 i know that there was a thread on these recently (must learn how to track old threads down one day) but couldn't find it. had one left over from the trip to cuba earlier this year so decided to see how they were going. had a memory that they were not bad but might need time. i do believe that the mag 46's need a minimum of 18 months to two years before they are worth touching, and then they can blossom. will be interesting to see if the same holds true for the mag 50s. not sure. this wasn't bad but no highlights. no evolution of flavours throughout it. one of the negatives about larger cigars is if they are not great, then they can be a hard slog and i found this a bit if a slog. by the end, a bit boring.
shrink Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I admit that I took the bait, and bought a box of these on the strength of the Upmann name. Like you, I found the first ones uninspiring, but not quite insipid. I don't think I'll touch 'em again until 2010.
justinphilly Posted June 8, 2008 Posted June 8, 2008 I too was unimpressed with these since they were released.. However, thanks to Jay Hemmingway, I finally smoked one that was not only better, but very good.. The construction of these cigars is impeccable, and when you hold one in your hand, they just feel great... And now for the first time, I am glad to say, they dont disappoint when you light it..
