CIGAR: Juan Lopez Corona

DATE: April 25th 2008

SIZE: 42 X 5 5/8”

SHAPE: Corona

ORIGIN: Cuba

AGE: OPU JUN06

I got a chance to get a few mornings outside the office when my parents came into town so I took advantage of the nice morning and sat outside for a smoke. This cigar was accompanied by large cup of fresh ground Indonesian Java served black.

The cigar was a light Colorado or dark claro in color and the wrapper showed minor veins spread around the cigar. It was constructed very well and had a nicely finished triple cap. I was hoping it would smoke as good as it looked. The smell and pre-light draw was a sweet tobacco with a hint of the barnyard. I clipped the end and noted the divot. (usually a good sign)

After lighting I immediately tasted sweet cream. The draw was firm but yielded much smoke. The body was light and perfect for this time of day. The cream taste in this cigar was heavy. It was like the rich flavor of homemade whip cream. This flavor dominated the first third with hints of vanilla, fresh herbs, and grass noted as well.

The second third began much like the first with a creaminess that was eventually overshadowed by leather and wood flavors. The cigar was burning even still a very mild in body and sweet.

The last third the body picked up to a medium and had an herby flavor that was a tad spicy. It was a nice change to finish off the cigar. I nubbed this one very pleased.

I have smoked three or four of these throughout the last year and this one was a vast improvement from the last one smoked four or so months before.

Nice review Ben, the mild working to medium bodied flavors for me along with the herbal cream are what I look forward to when I smoke a Juan Lopez. Thanks for the review!
