vegard_dino Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Hi Well, as new to the world of cigars, I have some stupid questions to....sure these is not the last one. Can I smoke a cigar, put it out and re- light it later? If I can, do I need to do it later the same day, or next day?
Lanthor Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 » Hi » » Well, as new to the world of cigars, I have some stupid questions » to....sure these is not the last one. » » Can I smoke a cigar, put it out and re- light it later? » If I can, do I need to do it later the same day, or next day? Depends on how you put it out. If you let it go out on its own, should be fine to relight an hour or so later depending on temp and humidity at the time. Remember to blow out through the clipped end of the cigar once it is out to get all the smoke out of it. If you stub it out, it is done. I wouldn't relight anything that has been out over 30-45 minutes myself.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Good information. I guess, it is the same as my pipe when I smoke that.
Wiley Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 For me, if it goes out while I'm running to refill my drink, that's fine. Longer than that and it gets pitched.
Colt45 Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 Try a search for purging and re-lighting - there have been a few threads on the topic. In general, I'm with Wiley here.
Taino Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 I don't like to admit it, but I'm with Colt and Wiley here. They taste funny after a while... funny like colt funny IYKWIM;-)
greenpimp Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 If it's a really good one, I'll clip it carefully from the ash end, about an inch or two of the burned end, then light it and purge only for a few minutes. Occasionally it's worth it. If it was a really good one.
anacostiakat Posted May 16, 2008 Posted May 16, 2008 » Try a search for purging and re-lighting - there have been a few threads on » the topic. » » In general, I'm with Wiley here. Oh man! I concur. Never let something sit very long and relight.

It doesn't work with young cigars, in my experience.

CelticBasque Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 Ohh, the irony... Just caught one of Suckling's older blogs on the cA site this morning. This one features Edward Sahakian educating James on the benefits and practice of purging a cigar to save it for..... wait for it...... the next day! Anyway, I found it interesting that the same topic popped up here. [link=http://www.cigaraficionado.com/Cigar/CA_Blogs/Blog_Detail/0,4695,256,00.html]Check Out the Technique[/link]... :-P

If I am enjoying a nice stout, but just HAVE to go to bed, I will purge it, and enjoy it again the next day...
SonGoku Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 » For me, if it goes out while I'm running to refill my drink, that's fine. » Longer than that and it gets pitched. Gotta agree with Wiley on this one. I really don't like how they taste after relighting after it went out unless it was just for a couple of minutes.
Thomas Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I often smoke in my truck in between appointments and sometimes keep the same stick going most of the morning or afternoon. When I get out, I blow the smoke out and bury the head in a pile of ash to smolder it so it will not burn. Then when I am back in the truck I will roast it up and then grimace at the first puff or two and then its good to go, no issues here

tigger Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 » Another vote for a few minutes tops. :-) And another. If I know I'm not going to have time to finish a cigar, I smoke a shorter one. :-)
Mel Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I hate to step on the toes of those that will relight al length but I have to ask the question of why do it? Is it economics? I do understand have to relight during the smoking session cause some smoke so slowly or having to run in the store and relight a few minutes later but I can not understand why a man would want to come back to a cigar that has been out for several hours? Hell mate light another fresh one Rob needs the money. I knew a bloke that smoked on a Sig VI for 10 months was he daft? or poor? or ignorant? or cheap? or just plain old stupid? When I saw the bastard I gave two more and hoped he had a nice couple of years.:-D

gostgost Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Let's put it this way when I first started smoking I re-lite one the next day and had a horrible taste in my mouth for the rest of the day. A few mintue no problem. Hey remember there no such thing as a dumb or stupid question everyone here are good people. Dave.

Within 15 minutes or so you're probably good to go, but I don't think I would try relighting a day later. Make sure you purge the cigar before you relight again.
