I always find it interesting that often the different vitolas in a line have a reciprocal uniqueness that spans them all. It is not clearer than in the Bolivar line from my limited experience. I have smoked several from the line up and I am always sure I am smoking a Boli. So, this Petit Corona is no exception...

I have had four of this box in the past month or so and the only complaint I have is they are just too tight. So, with the recent discussion of dry boxing on Wednesday morning I threw one in an empty cedar box to see if that improved it.

So, time to review and I grab the stick out of the box. Still pretty dang firm..This baby just feels hard.. Dang, I was hoping for better..

The smell at cold was great, deep Cuban tobacco. Construction is a B+ with a few small veins wrinkling the otherwise velvety wrapper.

I clip the cap with anticipation of working for every bit of enjoyment from this cigar based on the feel. Take a draw, better than expected. It’s tight but less so than the previous samples.. Maybe it needed more dry box time..

My sprits are a bit encouraged!

Fired up with an initial blast of power. Intense mouth watering in the bad way. Not harsh just a strong first burn. It settles after only a few drags.

The profile for the first third is kind of a classic rich tobacco mixed with a fresh scrapped earth tone. There is also that characteristic Boli undertone that I am clueless to describe.. But I KNOW it’s a Boli..Smoke production is full (despite the "firm" draw) but not notably so and this smoke starts with a medium profile for sure. Notes say "good but not polished".

Moving into the 2/3 I'm noticing a crescendo in strenght..It is definitely getting stronger. For the flavor I might as well cut and paste a piece of the Czar's review from the Boli Corona Jr. "lovely bitter cooking chocolate and toasted tobacco flavors in a medium full profile". That is spot on although when I was smoking it I was thinking toasted/burnt chocolate. The flavors are unmistakable. It’s a nice smoke.

Interestingly, it is a bit of a "dry" smoke. My mouth requires a sip every now and then. I thought maybe because I had smoked a RASCC several hours earlier but now that I'm recalling I have had this reaction every time with this smoke. It's not a negative just an observation.

Final stretch the intensity is a full medium/full. Just under what I recall the RASCC being a bit earlier. The smoke is rich and the toasted tobacco and toasted chocolate continue..But the strength has muted the clarity from what it was mid stride so to save the moment I snub it a few minutes earlier than normal. It’s just a little rough around the edges.

89/100

**I don't find it a terribly complex cigar but it does have depth and weight and a wonderful flavor profile. Although a nice smoke I am thinking with just a little more time it might round out the edges. This is just a guess but I suspect a potential of 92-93 if it smoothes out a smidge and I can get the draw to improve.**

I have that code as well and have had to pitch about 50% of them due to bad draws, they are hard as rocks. These will be dry boxed going forward.

Nice review of a great cigar. If I get good smoke volume, I don't mind a firm draw as much.

Just out of curiosity, how long have you this particular box? Sometimes it can take a while

for cigars to "shed excess moisture".

I agree, its tolerable if your getting good smoke which I was.

Probably close to 2 months, so not long. I would expect that the dry boxing would solve some of that issue, and so it did a bit.

I think your probably on the right track with that though. I will dry box it a bit longer next time and see how she does.

I agree with others about the dry boxing. It has taken me up to 4months almost to completely dry out some cigars. With the punch PC that I have I wasted 5 or 6 cigars trying to smoke them before they were ready. Leaving them out for a couple of days didn't help.

May I ask since you have only had these for about 60 days, what temp and rh do you keep your humidor? From the comments made, the cigars sound wet to me, so wet that even dry boxing would only help like a bandaid on a open wound. Many keep their humidors around the 62-65% rh for Cuban cigars and kept the temp around the 65 degree range. If you are comparing the draw to a NC, perhaps you may not be use to the "Cuban Draw", which is a little firmer.

Just received half a box of these from a friend with this box code.

After reading here, will be putting them down for a nice long nap.

They smell great though...wife even commented that they had a great aroma.

Agreed. It may be a combination of jumping the gun a bit with these, as well as storage conditions. I have experienced several serious draw issues with my last box of Coronas Junior so perhaps it's the Bolis from around this same time period. Do any of your other CC's exhibit this hard feeling Leftridge?

The vast majority of NC's have a wide-open draw compared to CC's IMO, as well as slightly better construction overall. But they sure cannot match-up in flavor! :-D

I too had the same too tight problems with my BCJs. Proper storage turned them around in a matter of a couple of weeks now I'm just aging to take off any bite.

Boli P/C's are my go to smoke. I never buy dress boxes though only 50 Cabs. I just finished one with that same box code and only noticed one or two very tight sticks. Wrappers were a lot darker than the pictures shown here.

I'd agree with this, however, I'd much rather have a slightly tighter draw than wide open. Guess that works to my advantage given the general draw quality with the CCs :-)

Yeah same here, a little resistance in the draw, for me is preferable...It seems to give you a little better control of the smoke.
