Leftridge Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Wow... Sorry for the disappointment. I'll be curious to hear others thoughts as to what you experienced. Thanks for the review!
greenpimp Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 Good review, even of a bad cigar. My experience had been mixed with the Esplendido, some quite good, some just OK. I have a box of 2006s I am giving a lot of time for (my 2nd daughter's boxdate.) Where you at in Central Coast Cali? I live just outside San Luis Obispo.
nugget Posted May 5, 2008 Posted May 5, 2008 I have never been disappointed by this cigar. Sorry to hear yours was lacking, I must try another to see how mine are going. Thanks for the review.

El Presidente Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Thanks for the review Stan .....and for taking one for the team I struggle with the Esplendido in that unless they have some time under their belt (think 5-8 years) they tend to disappoint. Some 06's were an exception. There are certain cigars that almost refuse to smoke well young and I find them to be predominantly in the larger formats. I think (and it is my opinion only) that it is the lower overall % of Ligero in the blend which handicaps the cigar from being able to make a dynamic impression. Complexity in this instance is earned with time. There are no shortcuts. Try another in 2010 ;-)
cohiba Posted November 15, 2008 Author Posted November 15, 2008 Good afternoon FOH !! Cohiba Esplendido MKO SEP 04 I took the opportunity this last Saturday night to review a cigar that has me very confused. From this box, I have 11 remaining. Only 2 stood out as good cigars, not great, but good. From memory I can remember walking away from several. Why do I keep coming back? I keep thinking, wait a year and this thing will reward me…………………hasn’t happened yet. So now I am giving it another try. What a great looking Cohiba! Has a great feel in the hand, something special to me about a Churchill, it just feels good to sit down and know the next 2 hours are dedicated to this occasion. The weather outside is typical Central Coast California, a little breezy and fog rolling in. No big deal, this is my time! Diego (3yr old son) is sleeping and my wife is watching a lame chick flick! I lit the foot and it came to life rather easy with a wonderful aroma, I think this is going to be good! After a couple draws I am somewhat disappointed with the smoke volume, but still plenty of time for that to come around. I am picking out the trade mark cohiba grass, and good tobacco. Into the second third this cigar is not moving forward, just staying still. The bitterness is picking up, instead of developing into sweet cream or anything complex. This is irritating me, my time to relax and enjoy and the cigar is holding me back, very frustrating. I contemplate walking away! For the sake of review I will hang in there. Last third and this is totally disappointing! I can’t believe I have been sitting here with this much patience. No other cigar has got this from me, why should this one? Well ok I’m trying to do a review. I am not getting anything from this experience. Nothing but bitter grassiness. Where is the sweet cream, honey and complexity I EXPECT from this caliber of cigar? I cant believe I have wasted this evening waiting for some good to come out of a cigar. Now has anyone else noticed this from the Esplendido? I had 4 from Prez’s 2001 aged stock, they all did the same for me. Maybe the bitterness goes with the cigar? Tell me your thoughts. For me this is a waste of time and valuable humidor space Rating??
